If an agreement is reached, does it mean he could play for us ina possible Reds v WBA final?

depends what you mean by an agreement

West brom can't give him permission to play while on loan to us, it is against fa cup rules but Steele seems to think that he'll be signing for barnsley perminently in the next few days and so he'll be able to play, though I can't see how he can sign outside the transfer window.

Some rule about if he signs as an amateur player.

You can sign free agents at any time.
So as I understand it, as long as no transfer fee is involved, all it would take is for WBA to terminate the player's contract, thus rendering him unemployed and then we can sign him up.

There may be regulations to prevent use of this potential loophole though.

    They wouldn't

It could only be as a gesture to the player, to thank him for his service by not standing in his way of a chance like this.

    That's not quite the rule

Yes you can sign a free agent at any time but because Luke is signed to west brom now while the window is closed he cannot leave and then join another club.

Some player (i forget his name) had his contract cancelled just after the window closed last year I think and was unable to get a job for about 4 months because of the rule.

yes but its only a problem if

we get to the final and if west brom do too. If west brom were to be playing us in the final why would they want to help us out?

RE: That's not quite the rule

Rob Kowles said on Oakwell 1575 last night that the only way we could do it would be to sign him as an amateur and that would be VERY complicated to do.
