Set off by Train from Northallerton this morning (or that was the plan) train cancelled - thanks Grand Central. Next 3 hours trains all booked. Drove up to Darlo. Carnage with engineering works. Hopped on a LNER. Standing room only. Had to get off the train at York, directed to another train. Got on the ‘right’ train, then told we were on the ‘wrong’ one and we should get on the one on next platform - which duly pulled out of station. Bought fresh set of tickets to Kings x. **** it. I’m hoping things improve in the near future but particularly around 5pm on Monday.
Surely you shouldn't have to pay for the new tickets under the circumstances! Outrageous if so. I can only begin to imagine how much they cost.
Ordinarily if your train is cancelled, you can hop onto the next available, regardless of the Company. LNER suspended that agreement today on account of ‘how busy our trains are’. The next Grand Central train was at 3pm. Of course they will refund the cost of the cancelled train (£47 for two tickets) but that is substantially less than the costs of re-booking with LNER. The wider point is that we all know how poor rail services in the UK are organised. Just a tad frustrating start to what I am hoping will be one of the greatest weekends of my life! Still - only a first world problem.
Cheers Ian. Don’t forget there’s still that Castleford trip to sort out when you’re down. Tip-off - don’t make it this year! What with the Arabs performance it’s not been a good season for black and orange!
Hopefully things improve mate. We set off around 11am and taken us a good 4 hrs. Traffic horrendous Time for refreshment now
Hope things go more smoothly for you going forward. On an LNER from York tomorrow morning. I am hoping for a stress-free journey.
Safe and successful journeys to everyone heading to Wembley, the train service in this country is an absolute joke and it's gets worse the further North you get. There will be a billion trains an hour commuting southerners into the city of London.
I really didn't want to take the train, as I'm very unconvinced about its reliability, and we don't have the option to go tomorrow. Decided that driving, awful as it will be, has less potential for disaster than using the railways in their current state of perpetual chaos.
Agree. I am setting off stupidly early to try and make sure the road journey is as uneventful as possible. Hoping to be passed Luton before some of the coaches set off.
My sisters at Donny and has been sat on the train for 1 hour and a half. Over head line failure. Hope they can sort it quickly. Hoping for a diesel in 30 mins when I board
