Just want to say a little about Reidy now its looking very likely hes going, Couldn't ask more from a club captain Ok not good enough for this level but the criticism he got was very harsh as its not really his fault hes not up to this standard if his manager plays him Always gave his all when wearing the red shirt and would always be happy to stop and talk to any reds fan Never forget him lifting the trophy at cardiff and the "bring on the dee daa barstewards" at the town hall Cheers for the memories Reidy Good luck in the future
A great bloke who loves it up here. My abiding memory of him is him and Antony Kay completely bladdered in Funny Gals in the week after the play off final. Both were introduced on to the gantry, place goes doolally, no idea how they got to the top of the steps but nobody cared. Reidy starts a chant of "ee-i-ee-i-ee-i-ooo up the f....." and Kay pulls Reidy's jeans down, no pants on. He was still chanting with one hand holding his jeans half mast and his crown jewels dangling above the crowd below. Not a care in the world, nor any idea what planet he was on at the time.
Truly a brilliant person. Hope he moves on to have success elsewhere. Never met the bloke but always wanted to. Probably the only reds player who played with pride and would not be defeated.
I agree wholeheartedly with the majority of these comments. I too would like to thank Reidy for always giving 100% for tarn. Ultimately, that is all any fan can ask for from any player and I for one, could never criticise this bloke. There seems to be a strong view that he isn’t good enough for Championship. I think he could surprise a lot of you. Last season was one hell of a steep learning curve for quite a few of our players including Paul. However, I ask you this - if Reidy had constantly had the benefit of a commanding keeper like Muller this season and better defenders such as Foster would he have given more composed and assured performances? I reckon he would. It always helps your own performances when you play in a stronger team. My abiding memory of Reidy will be when at Blackpool away in the promotion season he pole axed their forward (could have been Parker! - If so he didn’t kick the little time wasting **** hard enough) in the last minute to save a certain goal but he knew it also meant he got sent off. That was the difference between losing and drawing that game and at the time a point was oh so vital to get into the play offs. Thanks again Paul for the memories and commitment.
yep echo all thats been said, total commitment from him and ya carnt ask any more than that, and im sure he was a great bloke to have in and around the club, just the realitys of football unfortunatly.
I think Paul Reid is unlucky. He is only 25...same age as Odejayi who we are saying "has potential to develop" so why not Paul Reid?
Talked to Reidy a while back in Lucorum.. Great bloke, always a decent player, made a few mistakes (just like Souza does) and in my opinion is a FAR FAR FAR better distributor than Souza.
Good Point DiscoTyke Very, very good point. I totally agree. I personally feel this is the only reason Souza has been so successful. He's not that much better than Reid, makes far too many mistakes and his distribution is very poor. Compared to Reid who's distribution I feel is his best asset. I feel if Reid lined up with Foster, Hassell, Van Homoet...(Nyatanga possibly), with Muller behind them, we would be in no worse a place than we are right now, if not better. I think he's only played one game this season with Muller behind him, and HE scored. Albeit, against Darlington but still, too hasty a decision in my view.
Totally agree........far too hasty a decision and one i think we will regret in the not too distant future, hope not tho.
Distribution Sorry mate, cannot agree with the Reid has good distribution point and certainly not as good as Souza. Reid showed a lot of comitment and did a fine job in the promotion season but I honestly think that he is a good 3rd tier player not a 2nd tier player.
i think its crazy to let him go at 25. We will only have to replace him and its not easy getting players with reids commitment! Shame really although we where truley awful at the back when he played i always blamed the full back for not offering protection. Good luck reidy if you do go and wish you every success in the future!
RE: Distribution Reidy found someone with his vast range of passing, he ACTUALLY tried to pick a player out and I personally felt he was a good passer. Souza is one of the worst distributors of the ball I've ever seen (especially long ball), right up there with Craig Ireland (Ok, maybe not THAT bad...). Against Blackpool he only further highlighted this. I'm not arguing here, but please - give me some examples of Souza's good distribution and how he compares to Reid.
you could never knock what Reid did for us, but theres a big difference when you look how Howard bosses the team about a proper Captain.
