A friend wants to buy a pc (just the pc, already has a nice monitor etc.) Just wants it to be quick for games/t'internet. Any suggestions? Also what's the best way to get t'internet where there's no cable broadband? Ta.
Games take up the most processing power Anyone using a computer for Microsoft Word and looking on t'internet will find any 5 year old computer they can pick up for next to nowt more than adequate. But if you want to play the latest games then you need the latest computer.
RE: Games take up the most processing power I don't think she's bothered about super-duper online gaming.
Dell as much as I hate to say it, have some good deals. Internet - if no Cable, possibly could be ADSL, failing that, it's good old dial up. Details into the checker, see if she can get ADSL http://www.broadbandchecker.co.uk/?GTSE=goog>KW=adsl%20checker
RE: And what about the internet connection? Come on! If its just simple surfing Plusnet take some beating at £14.99 for 2MB broadband. However, for games or lots of downloading you'd need to do for something more expensive. Tesco offer 0.5Mb unlimited broadband for £19.99, yet both users I know who have it get 2Mb connections speeds! Demon internet also offer unlimited 2MB broadband for £19.99 Pipex usually on the ball, not checked their prices recently but worth a look. EDIT - all presuming of course ADSL is available in her area - see Tatt's post.
Thanks mate. They're just on a normal BT line are they? Excuse my ignorance but since getting cable in I haven't kept up with what's going on tha knows.
Excellent. ADSL and satellite broadband available. She's already a Sky customer, would you recommend that?
Yes As long as the local BT exchange is broadband enabled - use the postcode checker Tatts linked to to be sure.
RE: Excellent. ADSL, not Satellite, too expensive! ADSL from Nildram, or Zen is probably the best. If she's a Net Novice, then maybe AoL.
Dell I've bought a CPU (without monitor etc.) and a laptop from Dell Outlet in the past couple of years and both have been excellent. The after sales service is second to none - they've even mended a crack in the laptop case for free when it was out of warranty!!
