Seem to pick up quality strikers for fun-usually from non league clubs.
Maybe we look in the wrong places.

Or maybe they actually create chances for their strikers

Yeah. Can you just imagine the reaction from this lot, if we brought in a non-league striker?!

They also seem to get relegated very frequently.

This place would spontaneously combust if we signed a player from the conference.

I would imagine quite a lot of our players were signed from previous first hand knowledge of the players, and maybe 'connections' or 'previous experience' in the North-West.

    Andrai Jones - ex Bury
    Dibble - ex Bury
    Cofie - ex Burnley
    O'Grady - ex Rochdale
    Kennedy - ex Rochdale
    Wiseman - ex Rochdale
    Dagnall - ex Rochdale
    Done - ex Rochdale

I'm sure Hill/Flicker will have noticed/been impressed by Golbourne, Perkins, Dawson, Davies, Mcnulty etc in League 1 opposition teams when managing Rochdale. Might be wrong like.

Signed plenty of other players though, from various regions, including Germany.

I think Flicker (and his predecessor Hill), are very proactive themselves in terms of recruitment. I suppose some managers like to/can afford to have a Director of Football and an extensive scouting network.

Im sure we will have our fair share of scouts looking at players over here and abroad (especially Europe), and no doubt Mansford/Watkins can help us significantly in terms of recruitment now.

    It's never bothered me

Where we sign a player from. If we are able to pick up a diamond in the rough from non-league, brilliant. The same applies to bringing in lads from Divisions 1 & 2. Not all will come off, but it's sheer stupidity to arrogantly assume there's none to be found. Over the years, we've had enough poor players from top flight clubs to try and claim those guarantee success in the transfer market.

    Exactly.

Also, one of the advantages of signing a player from a 'lower league' club, is that they are likely to appreciate the opportunity to play at a higher level and put the work in to be a success/impress at a higher level. Not to mention the increase in value if they do make the 'step up'. Look at Peterborough, £8.5 million profit on Gayle, after a few months. We signed Davies from Chesterfield for free, he impressed and the club made a significant profit. Perkins, Golbourne etc, key players and important assets for the club. Maybe a one off, but you just have to look at Mido, done it all before, hit the big time, comes to Barnsley and isn't willing to put the effort in, the club have to pay him off. Great value.

Everton won the league title in 1985. Have a look at their squad and then have a look at the Man United squad. Then tell me that football hasn't changed.
