Several of the big companies, Sony included, no longer make plasma's as they feel LCD is the way to go. Certainly 2-3 years ago what Paolo says would be correct, nowadays not so sure. LCD is cheaper to run than plasma and are generally lighter so therefore easier to mount and relocate if desired. May pay you to do a few google searches to see if any one has done some proper reviews of the pros and cons of each.

Yes, the research I did was 2 years ago. It has paid off as I now have a 42" Samsung Plasma and it has been perfect. I watch a lot of football and the picture is perfect, some of my mates have 32" LCD's and the ghosting/pixelating of the image in football is really annoying. I dunno if new LCD's have improved technology wise, I'm sure they have. I'm sure my next tv will be an LCD as it seems it is the way the big companies are heading.

LCD LCD LCD LCD LCD LCD LCD

Plasma doesn't even come close to matching the quality.

I disagree totally with the guy who said anything over 37inch = plasma.

LCD's are better in all sizes and all shapes. The only difference is, for a 50 inch LCD you are going to have to part with a fair wad of money, whereas you can get a 50 inch plasma for a reasonable price now.

    LCD evertytime mate.

    Depends ...

.. if you watch a lot of sport I would say Plasma but for overall picture sharpness LCD.

I had an LCD and the picture was great when watching general TV and PS3 but for the footy it wasn't great at all. On the plasma the picture isn't qute as sharp but fast moving images like footy don't deteriorate the quality at all.

As with everything else, you get what you pay for - this however looks to be a good set at a great price though it's not 1080p. http://www.xomy.com/shop-uk/plasma-...ch-hd-ready-freeview-plasma-tv/prod_2531.html

By the way why 1080p? There's not much content available, Sky HD is 720p and evem most games are 720p - the price difference is quite big and I am not sure the image quality is that noticable when it is available.

    RE: Depends ...

In my experience, if you intend to buy the latest models, there's nothing to choose between Plasma and LCD regardless of the screen size. However, if your thinking of buying an older model, then I'd say plasma is the better option for a screen of 42'+.

It's like the Betamax vs VHS video debate. The poorer cousin will win because it's cheap to produce and the margins are higher, so the manufacturers and retailer will point the customer towards the LCD TV, sad for those paying a grand for a telly that will be a couple hundred quid in 2 years. They're making huge, huge profits on LCD's at the mo.

All us plebs had VHS videos, while the industry stuck with beta technology.

42 or 50 inch plasma from Panasonic- with built in Freesat HD

Terrific televisions -I've got one. Read the reviews in the magazines. Free high definition built-in -no boxes or cables.

depends entirely on what you intend to use the TV for

for example an HD LCD television will generally give a poor(er) picture when watching standard definition TV but would be great for PS3 etc.

LCD's suffer from ghosting and things while plasma's don't. Pop on over to AVforums, tell them what you want it for and some people in the know will point you in the right direction
