Any advice anyone?

I've got to register my son for school and make 3 choices i.e my prefered 3 schools by mid nov.

I live in oakwell and to put it bluntly Grove Street and Doncaster road appear to be **** (on a results basis) although grove street has now become the new pipers grove. Only decent school appears to be Shawlands but I'm a bit worried he wont get in cos we are a mile away. Are there any other decentalternatives near tarnwithout some poisoned religous doctrine?

As a footnote I went to t'common which really was **** with a capital turdand a very putrid aroma.

My mum works at Doncaster Road school

she's not a teacher though. I particularly hate the feckin place whenever I go down there, I'm not being snobby or owt but you don't get the type of people I'd want my kids hanging round with there. It's a very multi cultural school though, whether you look at that as a positive or negative is up to you.

There's that newly built Joseph Locke Primary school that's supposed to be quite good.

It's about time we went back to kids going to their nearest school. All this "choice" and league tables does is to further the divide between a "good" school and a "poor" school.

    RE: St Mary's

Pretty sure you have to go to the church to get a decent shout of getting in.

They were always in our leagues at football. Had some good games but Athersley South usually came out on top! :D

    Cheers

Been away for twenty years now - still pop back for family and matches - but it's surprising what isn't there any more. Half the schools have gone- apparantly my old secondary school St. Helen's , which is now Edward Sheerian, is being knocked down! .It doesn't seem like the place I grew up in- Scary really!

Wonder where the polling station will be.
