Hoping someone can give me an idea on here!!

Looking to purchase a new printer for the household. Currently got a Lexmark X1270, which was ideal for when it was needed (prob got used about 2-3 times a small, 10-15 pages). The wife started uni last week though and within that week gone through both colour and black cartridges and hardly any printing to show for it!

Anyone have any suggestions on a new one? It's going to be used most days printing fair amount of documents.

    Try the new Kodak range

They are now quoted as the cheapest to run and the output is exceptional, I'll pick one up myself when mine gives up the ghost.

I would go for a black and white laser if I was you... around £50 from PC World and will churn out a lot more pages than an inkjet.... plus you'll get half a cartridge free when you buy it giving you about 2000-5000 pages!
