50 points 20th - safety by 3 points achieved with a game to spare despite losing at home to Leicester - Thanks to Alan Lee

    last season -
55 points 18th - safety by 2 points acheived with a game to spare thanks to beating Charlton

    This season
52 points 20th safety by 5 points achieved on the last day thanks to beating Plymouth and Norwich being rubbish

First season - I think most of us were delighted we stayed up and were happy to give him a chance

Last season - slight improvement - and we had that cup run - again happy to give him a chance

This season no improvement at all - no distractions in the cup - some dire football and bizarre tactics.
In summary since putting together his own team and having 2.5 seasons in charge we are at best standing still - looks odds on for another relegation battle next season

hmmm - I think its time for a change.

But if Patrick wants to give him one last chance - though I wont be happy with the idea I will still buy my ST and hope to be proved wrong. Has to go by December unless there is a marked improvement though

I see where you're coming from, but....

this also means we're just 2 wins from 13th place, midtable best season in years (without best player).

looking back at JCR's pen miss and Coventry's dodgy pen - this would have resulted in our best season (in recent times).

Flawed logic in that any team can pluck out momentsthat have gone against them. We always take the moments that have gone for us for granted (those deflections at home to Burnley for instance). Some people will know that I've been sticking up for Davey for much of the last two and a half years. But even I think it's time for a change. We need to take a couple of steps forward ready for a tough division next season. Davey seems incapable of getting them up for any more than the occasional 7 points out of 9. No consistency. Most away games are pergatory. Long standing issuesare also no nearer to being sorted -a goal scoring striker, left footed defender etc. He's had the fair crack of the whip I always argued for.

Personally I would like to see the club stick by Simon Davey. The more successful clubs have stuck with their manager. Look at Everton, the board could have sacked Moyes when they finished just above the relegation places and look what he has achieved with them now. Just remember, if the club sacked Simon Davey, there is no guarentee that his replacement will prove to be any better!

    I agree

Good managers are hard to come by.

Most good managers have to be given time.

Proven good managers are very costly and are often out of our reach financially.

As has been accepted, I think most proven good managers skip us for better offers.

I will still by my ST, no matter what, and if the Board want to give Simon another chance to consolidate and improve, that's ok by me.

Maybe give SD until December. If we're in the bottom half at that time, with few signs of reaching the top ten, time to reassess the management then.

If we're in the bottom third by Christmas, I think even SD would admit he'd been given a fair crack of the whip by Patrick Cryne, and it would then definitely be the time to move on.

But if we're in the top ten at Christmas, maybe it would mean SD's gained some experience out of all the turmoil this season and improved as motivator and tactician.

the above logic also advocates sacking Benetez and Arsene Wenger - they have had many seasons where they haven't improved their position from the previous season.

I think Simon Davey has a little more scope for improvement than the managers of the third and fourth best clubs in the country!

RE: We were in 10th spot

At end of December the previous season and its been downhill eversince (and with probably better players). So if we leave Davey in charge until end of December 2009 and we are in 10th spot - what then ?

    Thats completely flawed logic

Alex Fergie will probably finish in the same league position for the 3rd sucessive season not much sign of improvement there.

All I am asking for is a progression to the middle of the second division - its a realistic target for a cub of our size and resources

    RE: Get real

Just surviving in this league is a success for a small club like us. What is changing the manager going to achieve, apart from costing us a load of money we can't afford.

2 seasons ago, after Ritchie was sacked, Davey took 35pts from 28 games not too shabby it kept us up with mainly Ritchie`s team and a few new signings.

The following season we started well with more foreign imports replacing Ritchie`s players and early signs were good we were in a play off spot. Then at the back end of November
things started to go wrong December was a poor month and then the cup kicked in and League form suffered even more. Points tally per game declines.

This season is Davey`s lowest haul and with a full team of players he chose he is steadily getting worse and not better through experience.

The time to let him go Patrick is NOW!

    What a pathetic attitude...

Preston and Burnley are not that different to us and they are both in the play-offs.

We have to believe we can do better, otherwise always setting the standard as escaping relagation will catch up with us, like it did Rotherham a few years ago...
