I'm planning on heading into Barnsley before and after the match on Saturday for a few beers. Not been in for a long time and looking for recommendations for pubs that sell good real ale or craft beer. Planning on going to Number 7, Arcade ale house(is that still there?) and thinking of the new market kitchen thing for a bit of food post match. Are there any other recommendation? Don't want to miss out on some hidden gems. Cheers.
There are a couple of small micropubs near the GlassHouse -- Tipsy Cow and Tin Oil. If you have the time and fancy a walk up there, you will get some decent real ales on offer in there. Possibly worth starting up there and then coming back down to Number 7 etc... Also the old Brownes bar now serves real ale I believe.
Tipsy cow up near the glass house also the tin oyle next door is worth a visit but not a massive choice of real ales but still worth calling in
Both Wetherspoons pubs of course - Joseph Bramahs and The Silkstone. Both serve decent real ale. The Arcade Ale House is now owned by Jolly Boys Brewery - decent beer.
I went to the number 7 and bought a pint of cider that smelt like it had come out of someone's arse hole.
There's a decent enough selection, all of which have already been mentioned. 00Bar does a few "mainstream" craft lagers and ales, Punk IPA, Camden Pale Ale/Helles and the like. Market Kitchen has Beavertown Neck Oil and Gamma Ray on tap, and there's excellent food outlets there too. It's a mystery why Acorn, Geeves, Outhouse and Nailmaker haven't got their own tap houses in the town centre but you'll be able to find plenty of beer by these local breweries in the pubs mentioned.
Thanks for the replies. Looking forward to this and I'll certainly give tipsy cow and tin oil a try. Cheers
What about old no.7 after @Stephen Dawson ’s glowing recommendation I understand they do a mead which tastes like a goat’s anus too?
