    Exactly. I was just about to make most of my team redundant, but furlough has saved the day.

    Unless the roles are no longer viable, even in a post-Covid world, then there really is no reason for redundancy.

    Even on furlough, there are still costs involved to a company.

    If the number of staff on furlough are quite high, then that cost can be high.

    Whilst companies who are doing ok, might be able to cover these costs short term, others who are struggling have that call to make. Hence Sainsbury’s etc are shedding a lid of jobs this month.

    Also, furlough is only supposed to be used for those who genuinely can’t work due to coronavirus, or can only work limited hours.

    Sadly, this system which HMRC have actually done a sterling job on, is being exploited by a few.

    Hope it all works out for you, but if the company is genuinely struggling then this is the only choice.

    I didn't think there was any cost at all . Part time furlogh yes but not full time which they fetched in again yesterday

    When the scheme was extended to March, I assumed they would apply it to all staff so I'm quite surprised really.

    I'm lucky that I have a couple of occupational pensions (Jaguar and NCB) which along with my partner's state pension mean that we can survive - just. I'll sign up with a agency and try to pick up some casual work. I will survive.....

    The company has to pay your NI stamp and any pension contributions at the very least.

    A wise man said to me (when I had an earlier than anticipated retirement in prospect) "you'll be surprised how much less you can comfortably live on in retirement." I'm pleased to say he was right. You'll be OK.

    You're probably right, the only problem is that I have a mortgage till August 2022, £600 a month.

    Initially, during teh first Furlough scheme, the company didn't have to cover either of these costs. These came under the companies costs in August from memory. Not sure how the government are working the latest system though, so could be different to before.

    Only been there just over 2 years so it will be 3 weeks pay. I'm on minimum wage so it'll be about £1000.

    Just worked it out, £1046.

    Less than 2 years to go. Always worth contacting them if you need a mortgage holiday to tide you over.
