Indeed it will It will require large swathes of the old town centre to be demolished and replaced with huge polychromic carbunkles to match the monstrous new transport interchange. Then add a halo in the night sky. Preferably like the one above Hiroshima.
To be fair the town centre does need blowing up and starting again. I think the markets could be really good. Anything is better than the present mess. As for the interchange, it is a bit crazy coloured, but the experience is many times better. Take it from someone who has used the old facilities for many years. Im glad we have the new interchange.
I think the new interchange is very good indeed nice modern feel to it when you are inside, hopefully the market complex will be as user friendly. One thing that would improve the place is if we swapped some of the traffic wardens for litter wardens to hand some big fines out. I work near the colleges and the amount of litter the students leave is f**king crazy, add to that all the Greggs loving morons that litter the town centre up. Gateway Plaza is taking shape now, another decent looking building to try and counter balance the architectural crimes of the 60's.
The markets could be really good.....whether anyone will be there when the rents have tripled though is another matter. We have a good fish market but many traders are saying they won't be able to afford the increased rents.
RE: I think the new interchange is very good indeed Perhaps? Isn't it going to be all glass? I'm just looking forward to the demolishing of Kendray Street offices. They are disgusting!
RE: I think the new interchange is very good indeed I'm with you there....just wish the outside of the interchange didn't look like they did it with the leftover cans they found under the stairs.
Our council and Glass building haven't got off to a great start After the problems with the new office block behind the cop shop. It sways badly in the wind, in the summer it's meant to be like an oven as the windows don't have blinds and people can't see there comp screen due to the brightness. So i've been told by someone that works in it. I've not seen the latest pics of the market complex. Big question is will they keep the mushroom in the precinct, if not how will the jobless tossers (can i lend 10p for mi bus fair) keep dry.
RE: Our council and Glass building haven't got off to a great start I've been told the same about lack of blinds. In the summer there are bits of paper stuck on the windows!
I also heard.... one of the lifts broke and dropped all the way down to the bottom of the shaft and people were injured inside the lift, but staff were told not to say anything to anyone or they'd be in trouble. Don't know if there's any truth in it.
If you go down Kendrey street towards the crossing Is the old building still there at the end of the bus station or did that get demolished?
my guess is that didn't happen. People always leak things to the local press in the public sector and nobody ever knows who it is.
