Sounded really peed off.Waiting for Mark Richard to get back in touch, been trying all day to sign a centre half but the ones we are trying for are out of our price range. It dosn't sound two promising for transfer deadline day.
Heard him this am. He and others are going into the Club early to get on the phones and ring around to try and get a centre half! I find this incredible. Every man Jack and his dog knew how badly we needed to improve the defence and yet time has slipped by with nothing really been done and apparently no urgency in sorting out the deperate need for a defender. We could have gone in for Martin McIntosh, but no, he's joined elsewhere, Huddersfield is it?. All we can hope for now if Ritchie is successful, is a defender no other Club really wants, whilst Marc Richards, the striker we desperately need is recovering from a broken leg which kept him out for most of last season and who is mulling over a contract with us after receiving offers from other clubs I despair
Martin Wilkinson keep up the good work. its a striker we need. didnt AR give as his main reason we got 1 point from 6 that we're creating chances and not scoring them, or did I dream that?
You couldnt make it up...... After injured players again...do we have a sponsership deal with Bupa? How on earth you you think a player who Northampton dont want becasue is injury prone can fire us out of this league?. AR its experience we need.something sadly lacking in your judgement.
RE: Martin Wilkinson Aye, we need a striker desperately but as far as Ritchie's concerned it's Marc Richards, I wonder if he has a plan B in case Richards decides not to join us and joins one of the other clubs that have apparentlymade offers to him? methinks probably not. You get used to losing.
RE: You couldnt make it up...... Brings back horrible memories of Steve Parkin....... You get used to losing.
Marc Richards is no better than what we have we need someone who can finish, someone who will demand the ball when in or around the penalty area. I'd have thought Ritchie, being that type of player himself, would recognise thats missing from our squad. if he fails to find someone today, I can see us sucked into a relegation battle Im afraid.
RE: Marc Richards is no better than what we have Exactly. I doubt very much whether Richards is as good as what we have. BMB reported that he has seen him play and that he was lively and aggressive and that he would be a good addition to the squad. He's usually right in what he says, as I haven't seen Richards play I can't comment, you would have to hope that Ritchie being the accomplished striker he once was would know what he was doing wouldn't you? You just get used to losing following barnsley.
How do we know "nothing has been done"? OK so we haven't signed anyone but that doesn't mean that they've not been trying to - given that he's said they are in early today to get on phones I'd suspect they have been trying.
"Out of our price range" was the phrase I picked up on. that basically explains why we are where we are. I'd be interested to know who he's asked about though.
The players we seem to be getting are no better than what we have, they are no better than the current squad including the 1st year pros. My youngest knows one of the 1st years pros and apparently he has been told that he has no chance of getting a game this year, well peed off apparently, been signed on 1 year pro, however, told that he ain't big enough for a centre half, look at developing him as a full-back, told 5 weeks ago that he would be sent out on loan to develop and gain experience. Nothing has happened. Just seems to me that the administration and running of the club is third rate, you look around at other clubs (Sheff Utd, Huddersfield, Doncaster) that have been up **** creek and they seem to have survived and come out stronger. Like you say, there have been good defenders available but BFC have had their heads up their arses. Who is pulling the strings down their. The rot has already set in, just look at Saturday, ok a bank holiday but that crowd was fairly pitiful and will get worse if the results continue with the current trend.
I go to the game with 5 or 6 regulars none of which have renewed their season tickets for the first time in ages. waiting to see what direction we're going in. today will tell me a lot.
RE: I go to the game with 5 or 6 regulars The Brentford game was my 1st game this season and it seems to me nothing has changed, in fact it has got slightly worse. Last season we had pace up front and proven a striker Chopra). Hayes is no where near that quality, Nards is injury prone, Conlon plays far too deep instead of being in the box where he should be. I think we will score less goals this year than last, thing is it is alarming that we will always concede....is it the defence or do we have midfield that is far too lightweight (McFrail, Shuker etc.) A long and desperate season as I don't think Howard, Kell & Devaney are going to improve the situation.
No real leader out on the pitch as much as I think Reid is a good player, I think we need a personality strong enough to dominate, like, erm, Taggart for example.
