National lottery going up yo £2 a chuck in Autumn

Three nos goes up to £25 but jackpot winners do not go up pro rata

Five nos & 5 plus bonus actually goes down

Will not be playing in the Autumn - as usual it seems to be the less people that can afford it are hardest hit - sound familiar?

Sorry if already posted but my BP has just gone through the roof

I suspect quite a lot of people will be put off by this and will either switch to playing just the euromillions or nothing at all. I also suspect that the top prizes will in future be lower because of less people playing.

If you want you can send me a quid a week and I'll happily send you back more than your expected value in the lottery.

Ever thought that if a lottery ticket doubling in price causes you so much strife you maybe shouldn't be gambling with the money in the first place?

Just heard this myself earlier and I too am a touch angered by it and what they hope to achieve. I have 2 lines per week by direct debit, but when it comes in my DD will be stopped and I shall only do the syndicate at work. As Ponty says above, I shall probably put my money on the Irish instead.

Couldn't they just separate the Wednesday and Saturday lotto's and keep the Wednesday one at a quid? Let the people decide which is the most popular.

Says he, who is telling people to get a life on an internet forum... twice. You could always ignore the thread?

I spend a quid on it every Saturday but if it goes up I'll only play the Euromillions until they put that up as well.

Well thanks for that contribution to the debate ... perhaps you could play once a fortnight instead.. but then again it might interrupt the revenue stream you gain from playing..

I have to admit I've never understood lottery syndicates of any size, i.e. more than a 4 or 5 people. I "play" the lottery (1 line each main draw with the same numbers since it began) but the only reason I can see for it is that the maximum payouts are higher than bookies will pay out. If you're going to go into a syndicate that brings your personal share of an average jackpot payout down to the levels that bookies will pay out then you might as well choose 6 horses each week - you'd get better "value".

Then again, maybe I'm focussing too much on the maths and not enough on the fun. My wife's always telling me that . . .

Give the Irish lotto a go, £600 for 3 numbers at most bookies.

I'll pass on the first offer thanks

As to your second point.....I can afford (with ease) the increase thanks, but will not pay the new amount...... I'm more concerned for the less well off in society £2 for someone on benefits (dare I mention that word) or someone with a low disposable income - it will make more of a hole in their pocket than the more affluent members of our society.

What a valuable asset you are to this community. Has anything intelligent ever come out of your mouth (except Stephen Fry's ****)?
