I was thinking this morning about players who no matter what they did or how well they played took the brunt of the fans especially after a defeat.I'll start with Phil Chambers and Nicky Eaden both solid pros.but were quick to feel the fans wrath.Any more?
Eaden took dog's abuse at times. Seems even stranger now when you think he was ten times the player Bobby Hassell ever was. Darren Moore was a bit of a scapegoat at times.
Chopra got loads of abuse up to the point where he started scoring. He'd been getting boo'ed in the game against Doncaster until he scored - it was soon forgotten after that.
As far as I could tell Eaden's detractors were just a handful of morons, but it did get to him and he probably didn't have to think too long about moving to Birmingham. Which was a shame because he left a massive hole on the right side of defence which was a right problem during the play off season until John Curtis came in from Man U. The best right back I've ever seen at Oakwell, don't care what Hemsworth Tyke says. I was only a bairn at the time but I never rated Phil Chambers. Maybe influenced by others getting on at him. I remember one time he lazily let an opposition clearance run out of play down by the west stand instead of keeping the pressure on and got such a bollacking from an old lad near me and he heard it big time. It was like getting told off by yer Dad. I even remember Macca having a dip in form and getting booed loads which was really not fur. It was during his beardie period. Ironically, many years later, growing a beard acutally made Jim O'Brien a better player. But it obviously doesn't work for everyone.
Is the Macca getting booed"not fur"a spelling error or have you started typing in a Keith Hill type accent.
I seem to remember Hassell getting a bit of stick when he was asked to play in the centre of midfield. In terms of managers, Simon Davey.
The bloke who sat in front of us in the ponty hated eaden. Then when he came back to oakwell with wigan the tool spent the whole match praising him. Nearly all kicked off when another bloke not too politely reminded him of the abuse he used to hand out to eaden when he had a red shirt on. The same guy also hated Scott jones but sean mcclare could do no wrong.
