1) Very well played all the team. They looked like they were up for it. Was that coincidence or the result of an enormous kick up the arse from on high? 2) Andy Gray. My man of the match. He has taken some stick but what an effort today. A thankless task on his own.... maybe Haynes could have come on a bit sooner to help out. 3) And possibly most importantly. As a result of the effort shown by the team to try to get things back on track at Oakwell, the crowd (what there was of it) responded magnificently, and the team's efforts were roared on at every opportunity. I couldn't help thinking at the time about how Mr Hill must now have to appreciate what Barnsley Football Club means to its supporters. Nobody wants to pay to watch dross and we have a right to express our opinions if we get dross. However he will have heard and seen the reaction of the crowd to a good performance and he will now know how we can support our team. Nobody wants backbiting and squabbles. Let today be the start of a new phase in relations between the fans and the manager. If he can deliver so can we. And then the thing feeds itself. 4) Schmeical..... what excellent goal kicking to find his forwards all through the match. I don't think I've ever seen a better show of precision kicking.
I am not sure Haynes is capable of 'helping out'. He just doesn't look interested. Can he fit in with Hills work ethic? I have my doubts. Agree with everything else you have said though, shame there weren't more there to appreciate the performance and make the atmosphere even better. Or maybe the stayaways are the reason for the poor atmosphere?????
A point made to me today and made by the same person at the England game on Monday, after just 3 home games, the pitch in front of the East Stand, towards the North Stand is already starting to produce a bobbly surface in patches.
