Since Davey arrived

Discussion in 'Bulletin Board ARCHIVE' started by BarnsleyBomber, May 9, 2008.

1. I dont feel that we have progressed at all really, He has bought a few good players (2 got injured) but mainly **** players either too slow (Souza) or too inept (Odejayi, Mostto, etc). To be fair at least Marc Richards & Paul Hayes could actually find the back of the net and still are doing. Hayes had skill and richards was pretty decent in the air. We stayed up last season due to Luton, Southend & Dirty Leeds benig fecking awful not through any good play on our behalf & its pretty much the some this season with Colchester, Scnuthorpe being terrible and big teams like Liecester, Coventry, Soton & Dee Dahs being somewhat out of sorts. We managed to finish two spots higher.

Look at Hull City and Phil Brown started around the same time as Brown brought in youth and some experience had some injures yet go from 21st to 3rd in the space of one season.

Apart from one or two freak results, away at liverpool great day but should of been hammered really and a good performance against Chelski backs to the wall towards the end. Davey has shown alot of tactical inept performances, main percentage away from home when losing which is most away games bring on too many strikers and taking off wingers and losing shape & width.

All in all not that happy with Mr Davey, but it football does show that staying with a manager and given time they can turn it around ie David Moyes at Everton, Dario Gradi at Crewe, stick with their managers and done great jobs in end.

You dont haft talk some rubbish

we got 55 points - No side is ever going to go down with that so you cant say we stayed up due to other sides being poor.

In fact we got most of our points against top half teams - it was against the rubbish we struggled.

The squad we have now is a different class to the one from last year - except in one area and we all know where that is. We have definitely progressed - the important thing is to build on that over the summer and push on up the table next season

all we are short of is our forwards to start scoring regularly. that takes the pressure of the defence. davey must get someone to get us a couple of decent forwards, because this is an area where hes not got the ability to know what a good striker is.

Davey could hire Andy Ritchie to scout one for us?

Ritchie knows about strikers.

Would they both be too proud to agree to it?

Wo wo wo wait a minute. All of a sudden Ritchie's the master of finding strikers is he? I bet you were one of the ones who didn't like Hayes or Richards, chuff me.

As for Hull, there's a major, major difference there. Look at the amount of money they've had to spend compared to us. Hmmm.

And for only staying up because of other teams, well in our first season we got 50 points, enough and this year we got 55 points, more than enough.

BarnsleyBomber..............got to be a wind up !!!.........then again it could be

then again it could be.......................Andy Ritchie thats posting this tripe

Yer know, him that used to say "give the lads a chance"...........
And we did............and they are now playing at Darlington and Port Vale and places like that
So when you think about that team and the players that were in it and where they ended up playing............then how can anyone doubt the ability of Simon Davey in keeping us up that season

I give you Brain Howard

The best player the club has had in a long while yet who signed him?

every manager makes good signings and bad signings! In terms of giving players a chance SD like most has his favorites! We have improved in terms of points and position but is the football any better?

Good point regarding

the football. Is it any better?
Personally i think i enjoyed a lot more games under Ritchie than i have since Davey took charge.
I also enjoyed a lot more games when Wilson was in charge than Bassett.
I suppose it all comes down to taste but entertainment wise regardless of whether the footballers are better quality or not i dont believe i have watched that many matches under Davey that have been good. I enjoyed the Watford and West Brom games and the 2 matches over Christmas were good but overall there has been some very poor matches this season in my opinion.
I know people will point out that its the results that are important but to me i like to be entertained and if we are trying to get more in the ground surely this has some validity?

You can't say Bristol City at home wasn't enjoyable, we played brilliantly that night.

Where do you think Souza would be playing if he had more pace, He's what we have needed for a few years. One of the top signings we made.

Gee o'er wi thi

The squad is much improved, we picked up more points in an exceptionally competitive league this season and we had the distraction of the unbelievable (for that is the best way to describe it) cup run. Barring a few inevitable damp squib signings and a bizarrely inexplicable inability to produce the goods away from home, he's done a fine job while remaining on a relatively tight budget.

I heard that that wasnt Ritchies doing

Not sure how true it is but was told that Ritchie wanted to give the lads a go and didnt really want to sign anyone over the summer and our then Chairman nabbed Howard and McIndoe whilst ritchie was on his jollies. - whether there is any truth in the story I have no idea
