So, this week we've had reboots* of ...

    Porridge
    Are You Being Served
    Young Hyacinth and
    Goodnight Sweetheart.
I've not seen Alf Garnett yet

I'm not a fan of reboots, and was prepairing for the first worst., especially with porridge. However, I just really enjoyed Goodnight Sweetheart. Maybe because it was the same cast.

Porridge was dreadful, but on re-watching wasn't actually that bad.

Young Hyacinth ... meh. I was expecting most from this. It sort of worked.

Are you Being Served? though .... crikey. Talk about overdone. The made John Inman look positivity macho with the portrayal of Mr Humphries.

Any thoughts, indeed do we have any comedy fans on here?

    * I'm also not fond of the word reboot in this context either.

Should have left well alone. Reboots never the same.

So glad Fawlty Towers has been left alone. IMO the best sit com ever.

Thought Goodnight Sweetheart was the best by a country mile very funny if they could reproduce that I'd certainly watch a new series

Seems we're all agreed. I hope the BBC listen.

Imo GS has a great format that with the right casting could go on almost infinitely ,it could go back or forward as far as it wanted to, within reason of course.its not only a comedy it's an history lesson.

I thought Porridge was ok, a few changes (like not crowbarring so many modern references in) and they could make a series I think.

Goodnight Sweetheart was really good and of all the reboots they have done, this is the one I'd look forward to a full new series of.

Saw a bit of Porridge - meh. Too much of a classic for me to re-do.

I thought Are You Being Served was not too bad actually.

Young Hyacinth, however, was bloody awful. This is the one that definitely did not work.

i didnt particularly like the main character anyway in the new porridge, was ronnie barker as fletcher always such an annoying arrogant gobsh*ite!! but the mr mackay character was done to a tee, maybe this show could get better if given the chance.
goodnight rodney trotter started poor i thought but it picked up, and i would like to see it get another series at least. still open all hours worked out well so it shows it can be done.
