The last three managers to get us promoted (Ritchie, Wilson and Hunter) were all promoted from within and two of them (Wilson and Hunter), along with the manager who got us promoted before those three (Clarke), were in their first managerial job. So experience is not the be all and end all. We just need someone to get the best out of the players we have, whoever that may be, and we won't know whether we've got the right man until we see what happens on the pitch. There's no way that JCR, Foster, Hammill, Anderson et al have suddenly turned into bad players overnight, so let's hope the new man can get them playing again. I would say that we need a better back room set up than we have had though, because we seemed to look a bit threadbare for coaching staff. Look at Hull, they've got three or four experienced managers in their set up. Whoever gets the job though, let's hope the fans have a little patience, because too many managers (Davey, Wilson, Bassett) were under pressure from the off. Wilson managed to turn it round, but still, it would be nice to think that the new guy will be given support. Still, I suppose that if some people come on here and say the new guy is no good, they can get to bore us with that throughout his reign so that they can say told you so when he eventually gets sacked, which happens to most managers eventually.
Appointment from within Could be a good idea as a stop gap measure. Perhaps a respected member of the playing side like Darren Moore or Foster. Give them a period to in charge until a Manager is appointed. You never know they could be successful.
RE: Appointment from within I think the lack of leadership shown on the pitch shatters that illusion.
RE: Appointment from within Foster said, at a Supporters Trust meeting, that he has no interests in pursuing a managerial or coaching career. In fact, he said he's likely to get into property. Macken, at the same meeting though, said he was keen on moving into coaching. We have two weeks though and I think a fresh perspective now would be the right thing. We have hd a poor start, but we're not adrift by any means and there's a very long way to go, so I'd be in favour of shaking things up with a new set up and fresh ideas. We clearly need full backs, but the rest of the squad should be good enough with the rights tactics and motivation, so if we have some money in the coffers, spending some on decent coaches would be the best way to spend it.
