I've got Sygate Personal Firewall installed. I've recently installed a new version of Java to be able to view a new page on another site but, when I got an alert about my system trying to access it, I foolishly clicked to "Always block". Does anyone have any idea how I can unblock? I've had a look at all the various menus & I can't see an obvious way. (doh) I'm off out now so I'll pick up any responses when I get back.
Not got it but Uninstalling and reinstalling might do it - bit of a sledgehammer nut approach though Sure there isnt any way to edit the blocked list - has it a help of FAQ section anywhere
That was my first instinct But buggered if I can find where to change any rules that I've set. Uninstall/re-install as you suggest may be my only hope. I'll leave it till the morrow though before I go for that in the hope that someone else may have it & know the relevant ins & outs. Cheers anyway.
Have you tried "applications" Advanced etc see the relevent section on this help for Broadband setup Open up the main screen for Sygate: Click on Applications. This will list all the applications Sygate knows about on your computer that have tried to access the Internet. Select DC++ and click on Advanced. * Put the port number you randomly selected into the Local Ports section for both TCP and UDP. * Uncheck Allow ICMP traffic. Since DC++ doesn't respond to pings, there is no point enabling it for a possible ping flood. Now DC++ is set up with a more secure firewall rule.
Got you up to a point Can't find the port number though. I think you may be crediting me with more technical knowledge than I possess!
Just had another look at this now that I'm sober & it doesn't allow me to follow this instruction from point 3. Put the port number you randomly selected into the Local Ports section for both TCP and UDP. The same port number doesn't appear in both. Not as far as I can see anyway. S) In your example, all that appears is a number whereas I get a series of letters followed by a number.
You should be able to look at program options and change the java program to ask or allow. You might need to know the .exe filename to find it in the program list.
Sorted it I decided to take the sledgehammer approach. Funny thing is, when I uninstalled Sygate, I noticed I'd got Norton Firewall too as part of my BT/Yahoo package & it was the Norton Firewall that was blocking things. (doh) Fiddled about with it for a bit & got it sorted now.
Thoroughly enjoyed you company again , last Wednesday mate . Cheers (Y) (Y) (pint) (pint) (nodding2fingers) (nodding2fingers)
I enjoyed it too Felt rough as hell the next morning though. Thank God things weren't too busy at work!
Yep, still on I'll be in touch with timings once I know them myself. I'll reserve judgement on the footie.
I wish I shared your optimism Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your point of view, I've always been ruled by my head & very rarely my heart. When I've allowed my heart to take over, it's usually led to disappontment so the head it is for me.
