Got back yesterday after my regular visit to my best mate and his family in Totton (ex Hemsworth HS 1971 like me). They are all ST Holders, and I always sit with them and their mates behind the home goal Chapel Stand half way up. Which, coincidentally was the best place to watch in awe at Grant's 2 goals. There is something surreal, but also strangely satisfying about NOT jumping up and yelling YEEEEEESS, but remaining seated, looking glum, but letting out a small squeaky gerrin theer! My mate knows his footy well, having played at a high level, and he summed it up for me at half time. Saints underestimated us, probably after our 5-2 defeat last Feb, and let us play in the first half, we got amongst them , broke up their midfield, and they let us play great passing footie. We both thought Howard and Anderson were superb, and JCR almost unplayable, if only he could release that bit sooner. Souza and Foster looked in control and Muller commanding in goal. Second half tho', Saints got into us and we had no time on the ball, all the 50/50's went to them, and we were being bombarded. BUT the back four and Muller were working really well as a team, even after Werling went off, Saints had to work really hard to get quality ball into the box. Almost all their chances came down their left side, and I felt that was due to JCR tiring and being on a yellow, also he is weak defending. We all said after the game how well BFC played, how solid the back 4 looked, and how strong and dangerous Odejayi was,no way would we stuggle this year if we play like that most weeks. So after the 5-2 let down in Feb, a great feeling on the long walk back to Totton...... sods made me get out of the car for celebrating !! Only kidding Jack if your reading this. Great news about Anderson stoppin for awhile longer too.
One Question Why didn't you sit in the away end? Seems like a waste watching your team if you cannot cheer them on. I could understand more if we had sold out our end.
Friendship stronger than love for BFC.... when you have known someone 43 years and are best mates, thats what you do! Anyway the banter during the game, plus his insight into our game were worth a fortune. It's not bad being surrounded by away fans when you win, knowing you are glowing inside and they feel like ****...he he. :$
Haha........ yeah I can imagine you felt good inside after the third goal and took even more pleasure from hearing all the moaning that would have been going on around you.
RE: last season i sat in the leeds and sheff wednesday ends to see us. I generally sit with the away fans, as the last 3/4 times I sat with our supposed supporters (and I rarely go now) I have had to contend with anti-semitic, rascist, foul mouthed louts, who purport to be Barnsley fans.
