Can be used for and against: A) We got 55 points and finished two places higher, our home record was better and our defence improved in the league so we must have improved or correct me if im wrong B) We failed to win as many league games this season and we actually finished closer points wise to the relegation zone, our away record was worse and didnt score as many goals so we havent improved
but.... Had Leeds not been deducted points we would have been closer to the relegation places wouldn't we?
I would go for A but only just. The cup run was a big bonus and which fans really enjoyed, to get to the semi-final was fantastic. But and it's a big but, our away form was the pits, and when we went behind by a goal the managment was unable to turn it around. In fact i read on here sometime ago that Barnsley were the bottom of the league when it came to turning a goal deficit into a victory. We have improved slightly but i wouldn't shout it to the world. Next season IMHO will be much harder than this , so Davey has to be spot on with his player acquisitions, and his skill to turn it around when we go a goal behind. Next season? who knows, but it's going to be tough.
we were indeed............ only one win when conceding first</p> http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D1/oppscfst.html</p> however 5th best when scoring first</p> http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D1/scfst.html</p>
Actually Davey's PPG is worse this season than last 2006/07 PL.....W.....D.....L.....PTS.....PPG 28....11.....2.....15....35......1.25 2007/08 PL.....W.....D.....L.....PTS.....PPG 46....14....13....19.....55.....1.19 I'm a Davey fan so I'm not having a go, just stating the facts.
The wierderst ones are these If you look at our results against top half teams we come 8th with 30 points but against the bottom half we only managed 25 points and came 23rd http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D1/vtophalf.html http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D1/vbothalf.html So we are clearly capable against better opposition (proved by beating Liverpool and Chelsea as well) Looks like the side has some mental attitute issues - cant come from behind, cant beat poor opposition but has the necessary abilty - dont lose once in front - can beat anyone if they put their mind to it Somehow we need to get the players and Daveys Attitude and tactics sorted because the basic squad is there - it was nt last season
these are amongst the most misleading stats 365 produce!! it entirely depends when you play somebody-they only tell you how we did relative to how teams finished</p> eg this season for the first 20 games we were more often than not in the top half-but the tables above class us as bottom half due to our finishing position</p> it would take more effort but the tables should take into account the position of the opposition WHEN YOU PLAY THEM not the final position-Coventry for the first 11 games were "top half" and playing well but our result against them goes in the "bottom half" table</p>
The team has survived the drop twice when forecast by the bookies (who aren't often proven wrong) to go down. The squad is far better than in the past few years, even if you consider some of the buys that haven't come off. Several seasons ago we'd have struggled to attract the better players that have come to the club like Nyatanga, Macken and De Silva. So he's bought some players in who have looked poor - nothing new there, even Fergie signs the odd clanger. The division is far more competitive than it was a number of years ago. There is a far greater mix of teams going up and down from the Premiership, making it far harder to compete. A slight improvement in this division can mean great gains. Just another 4 wins this season (and im sure most can think of 4 games we could have won) would have left us just 3 points off a play-off place. I'd have thought consolidation and continuity is what is needed, and with some better away form we might be mid-table or above.
I don't think so leeds would have been on 46, us on 50? This season it's them on 53 us on 55 or something like that
