So he had a bad game? I remember Alnwick pushing one or two into his goal last season. It happens. Personally, I think we've more pressing issues to sort out - namely the four/five ahead of him.
It's not just 'a bad game' it's multiple games now, therefore why not give Ben a chance? The goals that where conceded today could have been stopped so easy. Steele should have done better with the second, third and obviously fifth. I agree with the defence though, JOB shouldn't be playing in that position nor should golbourne! Complete waste of time.
I've asked Dreamboy to name the goals he has cost us in every game this season. I'm still waiting. So I'll ask you this - name me the multiple games that he's been 'bad' in.
Blackpool, he didn't command his area what so ever and later proved to be a key factor in the reason we conceded. Charlton, once again his starting position and kicking was woeful and could have done more with the goals. And again today, cost is three goals which isn't acceptable. 3 league games out of 4 that he has had a poor game and that's just not acceptable. Of it was Alnwick who put these performances in you would all want him hung from the town hall. Sorry, but if you weren't at the game today you can't really comment on how poor he was, and fore it's now time to give Alnwick a try. Put him in for the Southampton game, what's there to lose if he doesn't perform? A third round tie in a cup no one cares about?
For the record, I haven't commented on how poor he was, nor any other player. The Blackpool goal was M'Voto's fault if anybody is getting the blame. Not a clue how you've decided Steele was at fault. Charlton? Neither goal was Steele's fault. You'd have to be his harshest critic to suggest otherwise. As for today, from what I've gathered on here, from listening to Player, reports from the media and from friends who attended, he was culpable for at least 2 goals. So all in all, he had a bad day at the office. His first of the season. Joe Hart is considered one of the premiere goalkeepers is he not? I saw him drop a clanger last week against Scotland. It happens to the best - Schmeichel dropped some beauties (against us, too). But a keepers mistake is usually more costly, so it's highlighted more. I'm still of the belief that he's a fine keeper - he made one quality stop first half against Charlton with the score 0-0. Remember that? But I'm quite happy to see Alnwick or Dibble given a chance. I'm fair like that.
At both Charlton and Blackpool a ball was put in the box and dropped on the 6 yard line in which Steele didn't command his area at all leading to goals, I'm sorry if you disagree but it's fact. As a keeper you're taught to make any ball put into the 6 yard area to make it your own IE clamber through anything to get it, not stand on my line and hope someone else deals with it or slapping the ball away when it can be caught. What did Steele do? I'm not arguing and having a go at Steele as I am a fan and I see him as the clubs number one, but I think by giving Alnwick a game it will create a little more competition for Steele, no player should be a guaranteed starter. Why not dibble? He's looked good when I've seen him, I'd love to see him or Ben get a run out for the Southampton game.
I don't think he's a had a great season so far and today was certainly the low point but I'm not convicted about chopping and changing keepers. They need to know they have the confidence of the team, management and fans. Alnwick didn't have that las season and it effected his game.
The ball was put into the box and M'Voto was there to head clear but didn't. (Blackpool). No idea - still - how you are blaming Steele. I'll get the highlights out soon to check if I've remembered it right. And the Charlton one, he did well to get a hand on it to punch clear. Was unlucky that his defenders didn't defend and Cousins got lucky with the goal.
Love this. The argument to drop Steele is either that he's been at fault for goals every game this season - so wrong, or that he doesn't command his area very well. That is very true, an obvious weakness. Alnwick from what I've seen, for us as well as Sunderland, England u21s and Leicester (haven't seen any if his games for anyone else, to be fair he only played 45 mins in the U21 game I saw) is even worse at that. Not as chained to his line maybe but always liable to get under the ball and miss it. At least with Steele you know he's not coming. I'd like a better keeper than Steele, I'd like better players in all positions. He's the best at the club at the moment tho IMO - I've not seen much of dibble but don't think he's the answer realistically. So unless someone else is brought in, which won't happen, it's Steele for me. He'll make errors yes but will also make worldy saves and have unbelievable games at times. If he did it every game and could command his area better he wouldn't be at Barnsley.
I'm not a Steele fan and have stated as much several times on here for various reasons. However I don't like all the anti-Steele vitriol just because of today. He will make mistakes like anyone and maybe he made some today (I didnt go) but is he, long-term good enough? For me he isnt, but while he's being picked lets not slag him based on one game. Leave the guy alone and let today rest in peace and perspective
Steele is a good shot stopper but does not control his area and his distribution is shocking......he is a footballer that cannot pass the ball, which to be isn't a footballer Because of this, and before the start of the season, it was suggested by me and a couple of others on here that we could do with a new keeper There then followed a big hoo-ha from most on here telling me that I was talking shi.te and Steele was the man for the job How things have suddenly changed...........obviously a few more on here are now starting to take note of Steele Doncaster got Turnbull..........we should have had him
There's is no alternative I'd rather just pick someone out of the crowd to play in the nets rather than pick Alnwick.
How can you blame it all on steele ? No goalkeeper should be under that much pressure in a game you usually judge a keeper on eight r nine incidents in a game not fekin twenty or thirty like Steele's having to put up with. Its sods law under that much pressure anyone never mind a goalie will make mistakes the defence should not allow the keeper to be exposed as much as Steele was yesterday ten men or no
Exactly. For Steele on Saturday see Preece against Newcastle where the team in front of him went home and left him out there on his own.
Unfortunately he hasn't been pushed enough the last few years. He had the potential to be a superstar and possibly an England international at one point but since Heinz Muller left, he can get away with mistakes.
