For an interview with Reds defender Stephen Foster, please follow the link: http://www.barnsley-chronicle.co.uk/sport/article/5209/foster-ready-for-championship-challenge
"Foster, 31, believes the Championship will be 'harder than ever' this season" We hear that from people every single year. I will take an 100 quid bet right now with anyone that in 12 months time someone associated with our club will say the championship next season will be harder than ever. ""Our initial aim is to avoid relegation but there's no reason why we can't push on further up the league," he added." See that's more realistic than Golbourne.
Yet more positive, ambitious statements from within Oakwell. "our initial aim is to avoid relegation..." Set your targets low enough and....
'but there's no reason why we can't push on further up the league' 'It will be harder than ever but we have a group of lads here who are ready for the challenge'
Now thats a better more realistic interview... Lets hope he gets a defensive partner if Edwards isn't involved much this year.
It's about time foster was replaced. He's not the best anyway, and I don't like his defeatist attitude. How the hell are we going to persuade players to come to oakwell when one of the more senior players talks about how hard the league will be and that our main aim is to avoid relegation. It can't be any good taking that mind set on to the pitch either, especially with some of the younger players looking for some inspiration. We all know we're in a tough league, no need for the constant reminders
I'd say - "We all start on zero points, and if we can recruit as well as we did last summer with Drinky, Davo and Vaz etc, and get off to a decent start, then who knows where we could end up? The sky is the limit. I reckon we were set fair for a good top 10 finish last season, but injuries took their toll, and of course we lost some good players in the January window. I think as a club we have to learn a lesson there for sure."
He's saying the initial aim is to avoid relegation, which it is for most clubs in the league. Then once you've achieved your mimimum, you look to build upon that and see how high you can get.
so we get to 50 points agin in feb/march and lose the remaining fixtures, like the past few seasons? when you give players targets like 'just survive' once they reach that target they celebrate and switch off.
Well that is true, but it's Hill's job to make sure that doesn't happen. He failed at that this year, let's hope for better next year.
