    Just reading about the previous cup meeting with Chelsea when we won 4-0 (I was there, great performance) and found this:-

    Steve Cooper Popular striker who was strong in the air and well known for his acrobatic goal celebrations. 'Coops' was part of the Airdrie team that reached the 1995 Scottish Cup final, scoring the winner against Hearts in the semi-final. Cooper died suddenly aged 39 in February 2004.

    Anyone know anything about his sad death?

    I thought the club refusing to contribute a minutes' silence to Coops was a disgrace! The man was the mutts' nuts! I've never seen anyone as dominant as he was in the air.

    One of my Favourite oakwell memories. His goal against Stoke in the FA Cup 5th round replay at oakwell. Then the summersault and back flip or whatever it was. Never seen anything like it at the time.

    he used to train with small bags of sand round his ankles

    to train tp be able to jump higher.

    Remember away at Port vale when Beckford Broke Wardles leg - he tried going in on Cooper who had taken over in the sticks - thought Coops was gonna kill him!

    Coops' red card at Leicester.....

    Was at Filbert Street. We were coasting, 2-0 up, and he went up for the ball with that Steve Walsh. As they landed Walsh gave Cooper a clout and so he decked the Leicester player. All the Leicester team then surrounded Cooper and i can recall seeing a couple of heads getting knocked back. Top bloke he was. We ended up drawing the game 2-2 thanks to an extremely one-sided Barsteward of a referee. Their equalising goal came from a free kick which was awarded due to Aggie 'shielding' the ball out of play :((

    I remember that one....the only time I think I've witnessed obstruction being given for that and it's against us! I thought it was Taggart shielding it though....I know he went mad at the ref.

    I must be getting old..... On second thoughts it was Taggart (hidebehindsofa) . Aggie's goal was a belter! He was something of a 'dead ball specialist' was the lad
