There are not many Chelsea players with the experience of coming up against a team in a higher division, but Steve Sidwell, who did so while at Reading, explains how Barnsley may be approaching the game.

Sidwell spent two-and-a-half seasons in the Championship at the Madejski Stadium, and knows what it is to beat top level opposition, knocking then Premiership side West Bromwich Albion out of the FA Cup at the third round.

With Barnsley having already eliminated Liverpool, he does not expect an easy ride in Yorkshire.

'They're the underdogs, and they have nothing to lose,' Sidwell began. 'They are probably expected, although they had a great result in the previous round against Liverpool, to lose.

If they do they haven't lost anything, and if they win they've caused a major upset, so they'll be coming into it full of confidence especially after that win at Liverpool, and looking to take another big scalp.'

The midfielder also believes home advantage can prove effective for Barnsley, and is clearly well-researched.

'The big plus for them is they're at home, where they have a great record this season, only losing twice, and it's a big factor. I'm sure they'll come out and try and play football, being at home.

'It will be a full house, and their fans are probably expecting big things after Liverpool, so there will be a lively atmosphere too. It's a tough place to go.

'We'd love to have a repeat of the last time Chelsea were there when we won 6-0, but I think it will be a lot tougher.'

Sidwell's own involvement has been limited recently, with 75 minutes against Huddersfield his only action of the past month.

Despite this, he remains philosophical, and is determined to prove his worth in the coming months.

'It's tough, obviously everyone wants to play in all the games, big games, whether it be league, FA Cup or Champions League, and everyone is fighting for places, but it brings out the character in people and the best in players,' he said.

He has also been impressed with how the team has recovered from Carling Cup disappointment in the past two games.

'In the last two games we have been fantastic. Before that we had the disappointment of the Cup Final and the first leg of the Champions League, so that was our little blip,' he reasoned. 'Before that we had a great run, and had two great performances since then. We have a near fully-fit squad I believe, and everyone is in competition to play.'
