I'm sure I am not the only one who thinks that both Souza and Moore are like drugged Sloths when in full flight. If I am, then I apologise all sloth lovers.

I'm concerned that when either one makes a mistake, which do happen, and happen more times that not to the two of them - we will get punished severely at this level.

Moore is a good defender. He is, he always has been - but at clubs in the past, he has had players around him with pace and awareness, should he make a mistake, to recover for him and prevent goals from going in.

Souza cannot do this. He too is slow and in my opinion, as at least ONE mistake in him per game. Again, Moore cannot recover 95% of the time to bail him out. I also think Steele lacks the commanding presence that should ensure that he becomes a sweeper should the two CB's put a foot wrong. Muller, maybe.

That being said, why not try playing a sweeper system? I'd personally try Foster in that role, with maybe Hassell or Van Homoet at right back. It can't be any worse than last night - and lets face it, 1 win in 7 is hardly brilliant is it?

    Thoughts?

We can't organise at back when 4 of them never mind 5.

Foster will be the eyes behind the back four - he's been the captain of this club, if he can't organise then I'm pretty sure he shouldn't have been made captain.

    I'm almost sure...

That if we employed this formation, we would go up into the Premiership. I'm almost sure.

    Simon, call me.

Not sure the sweeper system has been used in last 20 years

can you give examples of good teams using it recently, then I can think about it?

    Ermmm...

    Us, when we got promotion?

I'm pretty sure Matty Appleby was a sweeper.

We were using it at Nostell last season too.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure it should make a comeback.

    I like the idea

Matty Appleby type mullets, Gary Fleming taches, Michaela Strachan when she was fit, but seriously no one has used sweepers for years. managers just thought "why have two poor centre halves, and another one clearing up, I'll just get two good ones and invent a new position called Defensive Midfield"

    RE: Ermmm...

For me, the defence is the least of our worries. Look at the goals against column and you will see no issues. Admittedly, 3 v 0 t Cardiff last night would have been mor eof an acurate scoreline but generally - whilst not being perfect - the defence is Ok backed up by a good shot stopper (who unfortunatley, can't distribute a ball to save his life).

Midfield/Forwards are where we have big problems, albeit solved to an extent by JCR and Da Silva , when he returns and IF he is as good as b4.

PS- Can't remember a winger this season getting a ball to the by line and cutting it back to set up a chance. Says a lot why we are not scoring goals.

Sadly; Davey 'thinks' he has too 'good' centre halfs.

My idea was simply a stop gap until we sign two 'GOOD' centre halfs.

If I was in charge, it wouldn't have gotten this bad.

The last time anyone got to the by-line...

was Van Homoet against Charlton last season, when he clipped it back for Macken to nod in.

JCR will never get to byline on the left he just wants to cut in and shoot and replicate last seasons Southend cup goal. He went once on the outside and his cross finished in the Ponty.

When played on the right he gets as far as the box then checks back ala Martin Bullock. He has the pace to beat men so why isn`t he constantly having a go at the defenders.

    Always liked the seeper system

Worked great with Matty Appleby, Steve Davis/Adie Moses, De Zeuew, Nicky Eden and Neil Thompson.

Paul Futcher would have been a great sweeper

Maybe a touch slow, but his reading of the game made up for that.
