Huddersfield are set to appoint Derby County assistant boss Stan Ternent as their new manager.

The Terriers have confirmed they have approached the former Burnley and Gillingham boss about replacing Andy Ritchie, who left Town on 1 April.

Derby chairman of football Adam Pearson said: "We have given Stan permission to join Huddersfield as manager. We have not sought any compensation from them."

Ternent's replacement at Derby is thought to be Chris Hutchings.

Hutchings has been out of work since being sacked by Wigan earlier this season, and has worked with Rams boss Paul Jewell at Bradford and the Latics.

Pearson added: "I would like to thank Stan for the hard work he has put in for Derby County and the suppprt he has given Paul.

"We already have a new assistant lined up and ready to start work on Friday.

"I am very excited about the future of the coaching staff moving forward as is Paul Jewell. The new assistant has a proven pedigree and a top class record and is someone well known to Paul."
