Who was the last wow signing for Barnsley In your opinion?

The last player who I was truly excited about seeing in a Reds shirt who we signed was Craig Hignett and that was years ago.

Iain Hume sadly we only got to see glimpses of him before Chris Morgan attacked him.

Hignett was probably the last one that I expected to be really good and was even better than I thought - but then again we were a different club then and you half expected us to be signing players of his calibre.

We've had too many since who were big names but did nothing so there's nothing to say the next wow/box office player is going to be any good either.

Alessandro Del Piero apparently wants to carry on playing, free agent...

Hignett and Sheron were wow signings at the time. I thought McPhail was at the time as well. Then obviously Hume (due to the fee), Mido and Frimpong.

Based on reputation then Frimpong must be considered a wow signing and before him probably Mido. Just look how these two cap-ends turned out.

Michael McIndoe - Thought he was going to be a world beater.
Daniel Nardiello - If he could only apply his skills he'd be a 20+ striker in any league, probably too late now.

McPhail and Chopra for me. Though on reputation for me I'd agree with Mido and Frimpong.

I agree with this assessment. Both Mido & Frimpong were indeed 'WOW' signings at the time. Unfortunately, both were unmitigated disasters. The last wow signing who was a success would, in my opinion, be Steve McPhail.
Personally, I'd not lose any sleep if we don't make this type of signing.

I remember thinking it was quite a coop at the time - but again disappointing and we ended up shipping him out.
