Just got back from the match tonight, I am outraged at the way I was belittled because of the fact I am a pensioner and have limited mobility issues. on my arrival at the Beckett Stand I asked the Female turnstyle attendant if it would be possible to use this entrance to gain access to the east stand lower, thus avoiding having to climb stairs, her sarcastic retort was "no but nice try anyway" why do they have to be so bombastic in their manner. Manners cost nothing.

You need to lighten up a bit. Tin pot hitlers, outraged, bombastic, belittled!! And all because she said 'no but nice try'.

I agree her remark was out of order. However, last night I had friends coming to the game, one of whom has difficulty walking. I asked at the turnstiles if she could go through the gatie rather than the turnstiles, and was told no problem.

I am with Mario on this, it does seem like an over reaction to what was probably meant as innocent humour.

Telling the truth doesn’t bother me at all but people who over-react to what was probably an innocent exchange of words with no malice intended do because in my experience they are trouble makers who think the world and everybody around them owes them a living. You made her out to be a fecking monster for daring to either a) question you, b) have a bit of a light hearted exchange, c) not fecking bow and curtsey to you. Like I said you need to calm down and get things in perspective a bit.

Oh the irony of insulting somebody and calling them a tin pot hitler and then saying society has no respect. You seem quite disrespectful yourself so maybe you should think about your own kack of manners before having a go at others.

Ps no you werent belittled for being old. You were told no deal with it

I agree with Nick (sorry Stevie..) If the great Mario had a Father with a disability issue would he be fairly laid back and ‘deal with it’ - if his family member was treated in a similar manner on trying to access Oakwell?

It just illustrates the on-going issues that the Oakwell club has to deal with to bring its customer service up to scratch – a hard task granted when employing turnstile attendants on poor pay, but not out of the question. Common decency and understanding would have allowed “most folks” to help this chap gain access to the ground.

I guess you don't work in the service industry! I am truly appalled at your reaction to this. In my mind it's people with attitudes / reactions like yours that have caused many of the problems currently seen in UK society. No-one should accept being talked to in this manner; I certainly wouldn't. Asking a simple question should produce a polite and simple answer; either "sorry, but I'm not allowed to do that", or even better "OK, but I'm not supposed to..."

I think Jumper should contact the club to see if he can garner a response - I should think there would be many people lining up to take a part-time job at the Well, hopefully some with more respect and better manners. Manners cost nothing but seem to be sadly lacking in far too many people nowadays, including on this board.

The flippant use of the word "hitler" seems to have been ignored by some.

I fail to see the lack of manners in what was said. "No but nice try" is hardly offensive. Like I said it may have been a bit of banter but it was perceived wrongly. The steward had obviously been instructed that it wasn't to be used as access. If they had simply said no they could be accused of being curt.

Well obviously we see it differently, and neither of us witnessed it, so who's to know how exactly the words were delivered but I would think it was unlikely to be "banter". The words "no but nice try anyway" come across to me as sarcastic, rude, disrespectful - not an appropriate way to address a customer. Which is why I suggested alternative ways to deal with it in my previous post (not just "no" - I agree that would be curt and even more rude).

Agree to disagree then, I just can't see the offence. I think if it had been me I may have had a moan about not being allowed access there but not the words used.

**** me drunk. People are reacting like she came out from behind the turnstile, smacked him in the face and told him to **** off. In the original post Mr Angry stated that she said 'no but nice try anyway' which is nothing more than a casual retort to a situation she probably did not fully understand. I don’t know if Mr Angry explained things and I don’t really care because my response was not about the service aspect of this but about the over reaction to the situation based on the facts provided.

She is a turnstile girl and how do you know he wasn't the 50th person to ask that same evening? You don’t and rightly or wrongly her reply does not seem to me to be rude. The outburst of the original poster seemed to be very disproportionate to what was said to me.

I have to say I am amazed that there are some on here that think the turnstile girl was so rude that she should be called a little Hitler and that the original post was proportionate to what happened. Sorry but in my eyes if there was a genuine need for access then a two way communication should have been started without the assumption that the girl was a mind reader.

I would have spoken to the club and found out what there access policy was and then if there had been a problem with the turnstile girl I would have spoken to her. How do you know there isn't a club policy that was not being followed? You don't and it may just be that the club do make access provisions where needed and this problem didnt need to happen. We have a disabled fans and they access the ground ok so I'm pretty sure that there is provision for the less mobile fan.

The Tin Pot Hitlers sounds like a good name for a band that does.
