Latest from a reporter on Radio Sheffield via Twitter. Danny Wilson says he's been in contact with Port Vale striker Tom Pope about a move to Oakwelll #barnsleyfc
Good. We need someone to shore up the central midfield and full-back areas, so it's really great news we're bidding for a 4,000th striker.
Strikers - Winnall, Hemmings, Lita and Waring, Rhys Oates Midfielders - Hourihane, Berry, Pearson, Scowen, Bailey, Bree, Abbott Yes its such a shame we're bidding for another striker...
Sorry I don't know how to post links on here using my phone. The information was posted by PeterSpencer on twitter. I believe he was the guy interviewing DW on the Audioboom earlier today.
Proven goalscorer at this level and offers something completely different to the strikers we already have.
I think that if we signed him Waring would be back off to Stoke. Him and Winnall up front would be a force to be reckoned with if you ask me. Midfield though? If we play 2 up top then that leaves us with 2 men in the centre, unless we play with wing backs. Hourihane doesn't seem up to playing in a 2 man CM, but maybe playing with Scowen could help him

Agree with all of that. Maybe Pope will give us that physical presence we have lacked all season and the ball will actually stick when it goes forward instead of coming straight back at us and leaving our midfield (Hourihane in particular) exposed. Also I wonder why Danny and the club are all of a sudden being quite vocal about who we are trying to sign (O'Sullivan, Pope etc) when it all used to be hush hush until deal was done.
I've watched/heard the presser, and not once did I hear Pope mentioned. Either I'm deaf or Danny communicated this to Spencer via the mind.
He's a lifelong Vale fan. Absolutely no chance he'll leave them to join us, especially where we are in the table.
Only because some of the players we have aren't cutting it. I do worry that we're still so light with quality in our squad.
