Puzzled as to why he could play today, after being sent off on Saturday for violent conduct

Think it was a second yellow rather than a straight red

Violent conduct is a straight red isn't it? It must have been appealed.

They appealed after being assured the ban would not increase to 4 games if they did so.
As they were plaing us, it was a no brainer for Mr Ferguson

They have appealed against the red card, which if it was up to me, should have been discarded instantly. It's given him the freedom to play today because of the appeal, despite the fact that he blatantly elbowed the Bristol City player.

It was appealed but according to the radio it is almost certain to be seen as frivolous so his ban will be extended. They clearly thought they would take the extra match to have him available today.

I was incensed when Fergie was talking about this on the radio

He blatantly admitted that he didn't expect to get anything out of the appeal but that he didn't expect the ban to be increased either and so he decided it was worth the risk and appealed in order to have him available for today's game. Shocking abuse of the system IMHO.

If it was a straight red for violent conduct then surely he should not be able to play unless it's recinded.

Poor loophole that is open to expliotation. If it's not recinded he should be given a longer ban IMO.
