<table border="0"><tbody><tr><td class="title">Tykes issue Davey warning</td></tr><tr><td style="display: inline"><div class="date">Barnsley have issued a hands-off warning to Preston North End after their Championship rivals were linked with a move for Simon Davey.</div> Preston are keen to name a new manager as soon as possible in the wake of Paul Simpson's sacking, but the Tykes insist they will do everything in their power to keep Davey at Oakwell.</p> Chairman Gordon Shepherd told the Sheffield Star: "We'd do the honourable thing and inform Simon, of course (if Preston wanted him).</p> "But I can't see us letting him go. He's under contract."</p> Davey spent 11 years at Deepdale, firstly as a player before taking charge of the youth set-up.</p> The 37-year-old replaced Andy Ritchie as Barnsley boss almost exactly 12 months ago and successfully guided the club away from the Championship relegation zone last term.</p> This season the South Yorkshire side are tenth in the table after 16 games.</p></td></tr></tbody></table>
So if GS is keen to keep hold of him why is he only on a 'short' contract and as far as I am aware I have seen no new offer forthcoming.
