had the pleasaure of "topping out" a new mast this weekat Caldbeck near Carlise which will replace the old one, at 1100ft this makes it the 3rd tallest structure in the uk, knocking Emley moor down to 4th. Emley still remains the tallest free standing structure in the uk though.
Last bit.

onto there...

up there..

view over the Solway firthof Criffel mountain..

Here's hopeing we can reach the same dizzy hights tomorrow afternoon.. (Y) (pint)

They are really good pics. Not seen owt that high since going to the top of the CN Tower last summer.
Just had a couple of days onthe mastthis week to help top out, been up northern scotland since late november putting links in for SSE..
Top stuff.. (Y)

as long a syou enjoy. rather you tahn me. A few hours out with riggers every year was enough for me though I do remember going on the roof of north middlesex hospital with a team of riggers at about 6am one beautiful summer morning and the views were outstanding
I've been working in Cheshire with guys that work on the pylons They say that they were taking home £1300 per week.................and it wern't enough if you ask me They had two clamps fastend to them on either side of their belts..........and they just walked up the pylons as though they were walking up the street I was really impressed...........they wouldn't get me up there for a million quid
RE: Respect! we have to climb up to start with, then we rig up a cable lift(basket)..takes about two hours to climb and about 15mins in the basket.

some lads getting out of the basket at about 900foot..

(Y)

You have my utmost respect For being able to work in that type of environment. I'm certainly not man enough to do it.
RE: You have my utmost respect Same here!
Can't knock anyone willing to do such a job! I'm not afraid of heights as such, but that's something I've never had to experience before! And a 2 hour climb...?! No thanks!

Got the Elvis legs from looking at that! You would need a tirfor to prise me from that basket. Prefer caving messen, can't see the bottom then.
Are you free climbing a ladder or is there a safety-line like the via ferrata's?

Wow Proper wobbly after that. You're, like, a proper bloke. Feel all weedy and indoorsy now. Do you ever suddenly think, "woah, what the **** am I doing up here?!?!"
