had the pleasaure of "topping out" a new mast this weekat Caldbeck near Carlise which will replace the old one, at 1100ft this makes it the 3rd tallest structure in the uk, knocking Emley moor down to 4th. Emley still remains the tallest free standing structure in the uk though.

as long a syou enjoy. rather you tahn me. A few hours out with riggers every year was enough for me

though I do remember going on the roof of north middlesex hospital with a team of riggers at about 6am one beautiful summer morning and the views were outstanding

I've been working in Cheshire with guys that work on the pylons

They say that they were taking home £1300 per week.................and it wern't enough if you ask me
They had two clamps fastend to them on either side of their belts..........and they just walked up the pylons as though they were walking up the street
I was really impressed...........they wouldn't get me up there for a million quid

    Respect!

Do you have to climb up physically as well? and does it blow about at the top?

    Same here!

Can't knock anyone willing to do such a job! I'm not afraid of heights as such, but that's something I've never had to experience before! And a 2 hour climb...?! No thanks!

Got the Elvis legs from looking at that!

You would need a tirfor to prise me from that basket. Prefer caving messen, can't see the bottom then.

Are you free climbing a ladder or is there a safety-line like the via ferrata's?
