with the amount of players coming in, before and during the season, we should have been well away from relegation. A good cup run overshadowed the poor league form.

    Over

Massive overall of players means some will under perform, some will struggle to adapt and the good ones will take time to work with already established players.

This season was about consolidation and establishment in the championship. We have a sound squad with the obvious limitations up front. This can be rectified in the summer with the same investment made last year - but on 2-3 players.

I think we will have more points than the end of last year and an improved league position. That for Barnsley had to be the aim.

Oh - and the cup run means we can finance players through the books rather than Cryne and the ground can have some much needed re-development.

Finally, BFC in the summer will be a much more attractive place for players to play due to increased publicity and that we should not be relegation favs going into day one.

    The home form great.....
    The Cup run amazing....
Away form *****........ I cant believe its taken till now for Davey to try something new...... and look it worked
So the average upper half team has won 7 away games we've won 3. If you put that extra 12pts on to our league position we would be 7th 1pt outside the playoffs with a game in hand!!!!!!

Under.... I suppose, just didnt want to go through another april looking over our shoulder hoping other teams would do us a favour....
As I said all the ingredients were their apart from our away form...... To be honest there are been no really outstanding teams in the division this year and I feel we could have really missed an oppurtunity.

I know what your saying, but there is a chance we could finish up as high as 14th say. That an improvement surely?

The start of the season I believe set our expectations higher that they were before a ball was kicked. The away form is terrible - but the defence is looking sorted, the midfield is looking like it could cope wth any in this division - the strikers have let us down. I dont know what could have been done differently here - other than maybe paying wages on a freebie rather than 200k on a transfer - but thats not worked for teams either. Check out Fowler and JFH's goal scoring record this year.

The pig headedness of the manager on Christensen is a down point - but league stability, home form being exceptional and the fact we have a much stronger squad with little to change in the summer must mean improvement and an achievement?

    Neither

about what I expected, with a proper push on next season.

Had we not had the cup run I think we would have been safe by now.

If we stay up it will have been a brilliant season.

Tougher league this season - Better home record, great cup run, more points on the board. Good financial situation with plenty of money in the squad.
Overall would say a good season, probably just over achieved.

The key now is how we build on it. Davey sorted the home form, made it hard from teams to come here. Cup runs now put us back on the map and could be an attraction for some players. Decent players in the squad, AND two away victories to build on.

I was hoping for 60pts this season so it would depend on the next few results. But if you factor in the cup run and the fact that we have lost arguably our 2 best players (Muller and Anderson) for a lot of games then it would have to be overachieved. No surprise that we have slipped down the league after these 2 got injured. If they had stayed fit and we had kept Werling (I rate him, adds something to the team) we would have been well past 60. A couple of decent strikers and maybe 1 or 2 other additions and we will be in the top half next season, maybe even dreaming of playoffs at this time in the season.

    Both!

Underacheived in the league, overacheived in the FA Cup.

    On target in the league

If we pick up another 6 points from our last 4 matches we will have I think met expectations - we already have more points than last season.

Way way overachieved in the cup

    Underachieved

The players Davey brought in are significantly better than what we had last season, yet we were still in the bottom three come April. Considering the quality we have in the side there's no way we should be in a relegation dogfight.

    RE: Underachieved

The squad as a whole is infinitely stronger than last season, but we're still fighting relegation for one reason only.
Strikers. The lack of quality ones that is.
If that can be remedied this summer we can be a top half team challenging for the play offs imho.
That's me being optimistic......better go for a lie down.

Jay in "I predicted we'd get the the FA Cup Semi Final" shocker

we've been to St James Park, Anfield and Wembley, beaten the mighty Chelsea, have the best home record for umpteen years having put 3 goals past several of the promotion chasing clubs, and have 52 points on the board with 4 games to go.

    bireight.

    more points

than last season with 4 games left we would have taken that at the start, we were favorites with the bookies to go down so in their eyes we have overachieved.

Some of us didn't go to Anfield. Grrrrr

Fantastic run in the cup, and some brilliant performances against the top sides in the league, but that only goes to highlight further how much this team have underachieved. There's no way with the quality we've got that we should find ourselves in the bottom 3 in April.
