Pretty sure I could stand there and offload the ball if I received it. £90k pw yer havin a laugh. ( Rooney that is)
Let's be right, Rooney has had a phenomenal career. Notwithstanding his lifestyle, his smoking, his background, his celebrity wife, he has done things me n thee can only dream of. He has had an amazing club career at one of the biggest clubs in world football, is an all time England great and our record goalscorer. He has scored 53 more international goals more than me and Matty James combined. He could have taken the same stance as other Premier League legends and gone for the comfort of the Sky studio at a reasonably young age. But he didn't , he is still out there week after week playing the game, for our enjoyment. Yes, he is getting grandly paid for his 2nd tier appearances, from a financially corrupt club, but he is still out there. 5 or 6 years older than Matty James, the comparison today is unwarranted. He is a shadow of his former self but loves the game and he owes it nothing. And I love Matty James.
Not a prob, it's great knowing we gave a currently better midfielder, and I am no Rooney fanboy but there is no denying his standing in the game.
I'd take a different tact and say fair play to Rooney for dropping into the championship, not many top England internationals do it these days, it's much easier to retire and sponge off TV companies. Weird times with no fans but kids will always remember Rooney playing for Derby like I do Clarke, Hunter, Burns and Molby playing for us.
I've never understood the criticism Rooney gets, I am a bit of a fan boy of his. But credit where its due to our side, I thought we dealt with his obvious threat really well, despite being on the back foot for the majority of the game.
