Heard a commotion and caught a glimpse of what I think was a Kestrel with a crow in its grasp. WTF! I thought Kestrels were the type of bird to scour rural areas for rabbits, not urban ones for crows. (doh) (doh)

    It's the credit crunch love

They're having to downgrade like the rest of us.

Nice choice of bird tho. Wish they'd eat more.

    yeah I agree

    Sparrow hawk seems more likely.

They're also a bit more bish, bash, bosh than a Kestrel.

Eeeh, I wish I had my camera/phone on me at the time

Maybe it wasn't a crow and was a black bird instead. Only caught a fleeting glimpse of it so I could have been mistaken. After looking at pics on the net, I'm more convinced it was a Kestrel than a Sparrowhawk. Strange location for it to be hunting, whatever the bird was.

Driving home a couple of months back two kestrels flashed right across my windscreen chasing a pigeon. Although I was driving managed to see one of them had brought it down on the drive of a house I was passing. Quite a spectacular sight seeing it at close quarters. Somewhat brutal though - but I suppose that is nature!
