    On forgetting that football existed prior to 1993!

    "Newcastle relegated after 16 years in the Premier League", after I'd just said to the missus that they'd gone down after about 20 years in the top division - so then I had to explain the formation of Premier League!

    Technically it was 16 yearsin the Premier league and 4 in the old Division One?

    Technically it's 20 years in the top flight. What they decided to call the top flight is irrelevant.

    Edit: It is actually 16 seasons in the top flight. They got promoted from the 2nd tier at the end of 92/93.

    I seem to remember them playing at Oakwell in early 90's?

    As I said to the missus - it's a technicality.

    But surely it would have been more dramatic to say "after 20 years in the top flight"

    Erm, Newcastle won promotion in 1992- 1993 season, so only 16 years in the top flight.
