What the hell is going on? Woods, Lawrence, o'brien, Dawson, Shea? Not one of those would bother the Ipswich defence. Paddy would have caused them bother. Which in turn stops them attacking. Perhaps would have made them think more about us when 2-0 behind and not just attack at will? McCourt was key today. And Wilson blew it. Hope he learns lessons.
Last week was made for Paddy too. Just not feeling it under Wilson so far. Negative s**t gets you know where.
Wouldn't of minded seeing him today but how was last week made for him? You can't play with 10 men with Paddy in the side. Think the bigger issue is the centre of midfield. It needs a 'sitter'. Any of Digby, Hassell or Frimpong can do it. Neither Dawson or O'Brien are disciplined enough to so it for me
Probably just listening to the knee jerk fans who were calling for him to be dropped and sold a few weeks back off the back of a couple of sub par performances
Ww needed a player who could run with the ball. O'Shea lasted the game and no harder than paddy. There was loads of room for our players with them pressing. Paddy on the ball on the break would have been ideal.
Paddy McCourt is a maverick. He won't track back or run around all day, but he'll conjur up some magic to get a goal. Problem is, in our situation, emphasis tends to be placed on the importance of hard work and keeping things solid. Perhaps Wilson is afraid of playing someone who might not keep the shape of the side or not pull their weight. It's a risk worth taking though because no one else is sparking off creativity like he can.
I agree with what you're saying mate but when we've got a player in Shea, playing in Paddys position, being equally 'lazy' and not creating anything going forward, what have we got to lose?
It's a disgrace if Shea starts the next game. Even when Mccourt has had his off days he's still produced at least some sort of attacking threat. Shea gave us NOTHING today and he was the same against Wednesday.
Agree totally. But Shea doesn't seem to have accuired the 'lazy' tag and so gets away with it. Not sure what Shea is/does to be honest. Looks very unorthodox (possibly due to his upbringing in the MLS?) and not necessarily suited to a particular position.
I'm at a stage where I don't really want to see any of Shea, McCourt or Cwyka start games. I see them all as players I'd like to see change a game of the bench if needed. All 3 have now had enough starts & none have done enough to earn a regular starting place in my opinion. Team should be built around getting the best out of Jennings & Mellis so I'd stick a grafter like Jimbo or Woods on one wing with Jennings on the other. Frimpong or Digby or Hassell can hold & do the dirty work in the centre with Mellis alongside them.
This is exactly my point samba. Not one person, except Hemsworth, has said Shea has done anything. So we have a choice of a player who does nothing, defensively or 'offensively' as the MLS would say, or we have Paddy. Who destroys defences. I'm worried our get out of jail card is sat on the bench for a loanee who agreed to sign on as long as he starts every game.
Shea looked like a 16 year old out there today. He was embarrassing. Proschwitz was ineffective. Cwyka got his chance & did OK. I don't think Paddy is Danny's type of player. His interviews say as much.
He's scored in 2 out of our 4 wins this season too. For me id play him as much as possible.... Reason being he has the ability to unlock a side that nobody else has been ability to do.
Agree. All this "he's not a Danny Wilson type player" ******** is what gets managers sacked. Danny may need to think he's only won 10% of the games he's been in charge for and paddy is a guy who will win you more than 1 in 10! On his own. All this scrap for your life ****? Not for me. Let's play like we want to ****ing rip the opposition apart. And paddy can do that. If we go down fair enough. At least we tried. But The likes of Dawson and Shea will take us down without so much as a whimper.
Go back to Fa cup vs Coventry, of all the players anyone would want to unlock a defense is McCourt. Wilson doesn't play him. I watched him rip us to shreds first half best player I've seen this season. Ridiculous that he hasn't had game time since.
All this hard work and keeping things solid business is doing my head in. We've been trying to do it all season, but we've conceded 47 goals in 28 matches doing it. Sooner or later we are going to have to try and win games to stay up, so why not pick Paddy and Cywka, two players who can score goals from midfield? Even a Burnley fan thinks Paddy should play. Bizarre team selection.
