Does Windows Defender include any protection that McAfee doesn't or is it safe to leave it turned off?

New PC had McAfee installed and 12 months updates

Microsoft reckon that Defender is the only protection you'll need

That's like a red rag to a bull to the hackers though so I suspect they'll be eating their words. Third party companies are complaining that Microsoft haven't released all the data needed to properly protect Vista. Who knows how safe these packages are. Properly better to have it on as a belt and braces approach.

    Seems fair enough

I was looking through the control panel and noticed that Windows Firewall/Defender were off....i guess it's no harm to have them on as well as McAfee unless I start getting some conflicts.
