RE: we equalised with 9 You said 'comeback'...not equalise. That could have meant a plethora of things, including things veiled from sight such as determination and will. Yeah. I think you will find Ever Yours Poet
Kevin McNally - Early 1980's - cardiff (home) I didnt go to the Liverpool prem game so cant comment but I do remember watching barnsley play cardiff in a league cup game at oakwell in about 1982 ish. 16,000 plus at match. cardiff had v good home record but poor away. After 75 mins we were leading 2-0. Although the game was marred with diabolical refereeing decisions. I seem to remember about 11 bookings and 2 or 3 sendings off (mostly reds players). In what was a never a dirty game. People in east stand were throwing cushions on pitch (honest) and atmos in ground was getting nasty. With 10-15 to go cardfiff got a goal back, which looked offside. Then we hit 90 mins. Then 93. Then 95. Where all this time came from nobody knew. Cardiff inspired by the referees insistance on playing on until they equalised threw evryone forward and in the 97th minute they equalised. Fans were going crazy. Barnsley kicked off, got a corner. Goalie punched it out and from edge of box Ian Banks struck it into the top corner. It screamed in. People prob forget ref display cos we won. But it was so bad as to be unbelieveable!
Probably been said but... ...Gary F*ckin' Cheatin' Scouse Fowl B*stard Willard!!! No two ways about it... Mike Riley at second place...
Willard reffed the game at Swillsboro' too that season... The one where Di Canio could've been sent off about half-a-dozen times and that was before he elbowed Barnyard in the chops...
Kevin McNally........... What a proper lunatic that bloke was - 80/81 season it was. At full-time the seat cushions were flying out of the seats as he was given a police escort up the tunnel.I can well remember the weekend straight after that game at Oakwell and he refereed the Manchester 'derby' and ended up being featured on Match Of The Day for some controversial decisions that he'd made. George Courtney was always good for a bit of controversy. Mind you, he allowed that goal against Leeds in the FA Cup in about 1991 - that was an unbelievable decision. Everyone where we were stood looked around in astonishment as Courtney was heading back to the centre circle - John Deehan had pulled the down with his hands and lobbed their goalkeeper in the last minute after he had thought he was given offside. At the replay at Elland Road the 2,300 Barnsley fans gave him a warm greeting as he came onto the pitch and there was a chorus of "One George Courtney"....... Mind you; he was back to his old ways that night, and we lost 4-0!
RE: Met George Courtneya few times Exactly the same off the pitch as on ... he was like... "I'm here, roll out the Red Carpet, get me a cup of tea, did you see me on telly again at the weekend - yes they were controversial penalties weren't they ... ha ha ha."
