Am I on my own with thinking that yesterdays penalty was a tad harsh ? , when it happened in real time I turned to my grandkids & said "God the ref never gave that any thought he blew instantly " , they both agreed with me that he was quick on the draw , when I got home from the match I replayed the incident several times & for the life of me I thought it was a poor decision, although I thought the ref gave us nothing in the second half , it was as if he had been transformed during the interval & even after their second goal his magical watch seemed to find more & more time before he finally blew .
It was very soft, but the sort of one you seen routinely given nowadays. As you say though, the ref couldn't wait to give it.
From my superb vantage point 120 yards away in the Ponty, I gave the ref the benefit of the doubt. But, it looked quite soft to me on the replays, I don't think there was any contact below the waist but Vita did have his arm on their lad's shoulder. Also he seemed to go down rather later than any contact actually took place. Credit to our players for not mobbing the ref, although being 3 goals up probably accounts for that.
My initial thought was that it was never a penalty, and seeing it back I am even more convinced it wasn’t one
Thought it was definitely a pen at the time but watching the replay it looks a soft one. On the flip side I’d have been massively annoyed to see it not given if it was the other way round.
Deffo soft. I've had worse nudges in Tesco's doing the shopping and even with a walking stick I haven't gone down.
The kid was definitely looking to dive at the slightest contact and the ref was equally determined to give anything he could 2nd half. I reckon the lino must have said something along the lines of “you do know ‘boro aren’t playing in red today don’t you?” at half time.
Never a penalty. I was stunned when the ref pointed to the spot at the time. Having seen the replay I’ve had my initial assessment confirmed. Absolutely certain he wouldn’t have given it to us had it been the other end. And I wouldn’t have expected him to.
Wouldnt surprise me. Championship level referees are only a slight notch down from nursery children when it comes to basic footballing knowledge.
Real-time on the back row of the Ponte I thought never a pen. Watched the replay and can see why it was given but I still think it was soft.
