I didn't hear last night's programme but it's woefully short of people that go on at talk sense and with a degree of intelligence.

Far too many people ruin what's potentially a good phone in, and it's usually the same people night after night.

Just listened to it on iPlayer. Spoke a lot of sense.

None of us really know much about players' contracts but in our position we can't afford to gamble by giving long contracts to players who might not make the grade. This inevitably means that some of the players that do succeed will be near the end of their contracts on low wages and will be lured away by the filthy lucre. That's the real world as far as we are concerned. Unfortunately, being in a higher league now, those sort of gambles will be even harder because players and agents will expect more to come to Barnsley.

All of the above is guesswork on my part. I could be completely wrong and probably am.

I hear a lot about players contracts, mostly along the lines of "we should be sorting these contracts out!", but I don't think it's just as simple as tying players down to long deals, and I don't think anyone at the club just sits by and let's them run out.

It is what it is with players contracts. So many variables, and we're not a club that can afford to speculate too much.

Agreed. It might just help a bit if we replace Linton Brown.....

Yeah, if we are going to be shrewd in our business we really need that one person to specialise in that department.

I generally don't agree with some of what he says. But last night he was absolutely on the money.

Part of the reasoning for signing for us is that we offer them the opportunity to improve on the footballing front and to use us as a stepping stone to greater things whether that be League positioning or financially.
Nowt wrong with offering them another contract but its going to be slim pickings (blast from the past for the oldies) if they`re any good.

    Just listened to Daniels piece.
With all due respect - Got to say - it's everything I hate about some Barnsley fans.
That is to say.......just being happy with his lot in life.
    Absolutely NO ambition.
When he says......'just being glad to be there and there about'.
Thank goodness Hecky doesn't think like this.

Daniel then goes on to conceded that we can't do anything about contracts - but what he is describing is the present system of contracts.
And that's the whole point - if we continue with the present system then Barnsley does not have a future in the Championship.
Other clubs will cherry pick Barnsley players - so Barnsley will have to run like hell to stand still - eventually relegation will catch up.
Not this season - maybe not next season - but relegation is on the horizon if a better system of contracts is not found.
If you listen to the latest Hecky interviews he is saying this.
