I'm gutted by this news. I first got into Soundgarden by listening to the Louder Than Love album in 1990 when I was doing my A Levels at Barnsley Sixth Form. I then got into their back catalogue (Ultramega OK, Screaming Life EP). I loved their sound. In 1991 I left home to go to university in Dundee. This time coincided with the release of Nevermind and Badmotorfinger. The former got the bulk of the media attention (understandably so) and overshadowed Badmotorfinger, but I absolutely loved the latter. If there's a stronger five tracks that open an album then I'm yet to hear them. Rusty Cage and Outshined are huge, and then you get to Slaves and Bulldozers. After that onslaught you're hit with Jesus Christ Pose, which to this day is one of the most intense rock songs ever written. Face Pollution then hits you between the eyes. Soundagrden was the soundtrack of my youth and I still play them to this day.
Hung himself apparently. Very sad. Only know him from the James Bond song and Audioslave (one of my son's faves). Fantastic voice.
