Curries Van Basten-esque goal at home to Bournemouth, not a volley but from a similar mad angle that he scored in the Euro's back in 88.

"I went to the first match at Stoke (3-3 draw) Currie Scored 2, I can't remember who got the other one. The Stoke fans were calling him a "Gyppo" and he answered in the best possible way"

This was one of my favourite away matches. I would've been about 11 and I remember all the Stoke fans had inflatable pink panthers which the massive away following were grabbing and popping on the fence, singing "you can shove your pink panthers up your...". Amazing atmosphere and Currie was so good. It was a different world from now in terms of competition. We wouldn't have held on to currie even that long today.

Jay, the boring 0-1 defeat at Bramall Lane I was the mascot for us! I got to run out next to Joe Joyce. When men were men. With men's moustaches. I remember being surprised that the pitch was like a beach with grass stuck on top; my studs were full of sand when I got back. And the gits didn't give Barnsley a football to kick around so I just walked around and did hamstring exercises as if I was going to play.

All in that yellow away kit with the black stripe down it

I remember that game against Ipswich and I think in his 2nd spell his debut was again against Ipswich and he scored that day too. Always remember the day he got 4 against Bournemouth at Oakwell and he didn't take the penalty we scored (Jim Dobbin?) or he could have had 5.

Still is my favourite player, maybe through nostalgia rose tinted glasses but there has been very few players in a reds shirt to have that effect on the fans, the team and me.

One of the best forward partnerships I've seen at Oakwell over the years.
David Currie had all the Sliky skills and pace whilst Stevie Cooper was a blunt battering ram with aerial power.

Those were the days when we broke the bank for a £250,000 strike force!!

I used to love watching them both.

    RIP Coops :(

If I am correct DC was our first 1k a week player when he came back to us.......wonderful skilful player, worst memory of the Stoke cup game was dropping off my girlfriend at the time brother after the game and getting dumped....bitch.......couldn't make the replay, listened to it on a telephone commentary.....and was gutted when we lost 1-0 to Everton in the next round....

Remember it all as if it were yesterday. Happy days indeed.
Wish we could turn things around in a similar fashion right now..... :)

Dave Bamber was one of the biggest thorns in Barnsley's side for a few years, like Andy Cole and others, they always scored against us.
Peter Beagrie played for Stoke at the time.... so sad to hear of his wife's death this week, was it cancer?
I remember the journey across to Stoke that FA Cup day, a never ending stream of reds fans going over the moors Glossop direction.
And them bloody pink panthers !
I can only find this bit of the replay at Oakwell...... Currie and Cooper and the somersault !!!!!

Too right. He wouldn't get a game these days. Didn't 'put a shift in'. That's why we are all dying of boredom.

I remember nearly being crushed outside the Stoke ground. They had two turnstiles open (out of about 10) and held the Barnsley fans back on the coaches until about 10 minutes before kick-off. We'd gone by car, and were in the queue when there's this sudden rush of fans pushing from the back. I got trapped against the corner of the turnstile door and couldn't move. People were screaming at the mounted police to help, but it's fair to say they didn't seem overly concerned. Pretty scary to be honest. This was just a couple of months before the Hillsborough disaster and I often think 'there but for the grace of God...'

Lorry driver. He was probably one of the last few players (pre PLeague) to miss out on the 'life changing' amounts?!? Just my thoughts like.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Des Walker is a LGV driver which I find surprising
