Apparently we've made an offer for a very similar midfielder. Any ideas who it could be? Really hope McGheehan signs.
Could see us getting two midfielders in to be honest - McGeehan and another more defensively minded player
That Irish lad at a guess....think southampton want him as well for a million quid but it could well be him.
We want a midfield enforcer somebody who can put a foot in where it hurts... I'd apply but by my own admission it's not a foot long if it was a foot long the missus would most likely claim I don't use it as a rule.... Taxi......I will get mi coite....lol
If you took the "wanting a good fee up front and a decent sell on". from Hecky as Luton.. id say unless the player forces the deal then its dead
*If it does fall through, assuming it was ever on, then Barnsley Football Club are to blame! Every time! As always! *Just joking.
When I was at Denaby United on the wall of the bar was a letter from Liverpool Football Club. It stated that if Higham born Keith Burkinshaw ( later to manage Spurs for eight years) played a set number of games for the first team then Denaby then a Midland League Club would get a sizeable increased fee from the Anfield club. They played him once during the four seasons he was there before he was sold to Workington Town. Rest of his time at Liverpool was spent in the reserves. So could the way to avoid paying Luton any sell on fee be to sign him and then keep him or keep him for three or four seasons then like Watkins and Scowen let him move on for free.? Unless that is of course a Club is prepared to pay us sufficient to recover our initial fee and the time invested to make him hopefully a better player plus the figure that Luton would seek to recover.?
As there been a boundary change at Dodeth then back to the old WRCC? That can be the only reason for your negativity.
I remember the underside of my chair, desk and my bed at school ( we had a mid afternoon kip) being branded with WRCC which was short for West Riding County Council the forerunner to the now Yorkshire Purchasing Organisation which is still based in Wakefield. We were also given a bottle of milk and a cod liver oil tablet ( my mate used to bust ours with his fingers). Who can ever forget the kids running around the playground with yellow unction on their heads after a session with the nit nurse.? Those were the days. If you paid your rent three weeks running the coppers used to come round to find out where your Dad had got the money from. If we were ever constipated mi Dad would sit us on the toilet and tell us a ghost story.! You darent ever go home with a cut otherwise you knew you'd get a bread poultice slapped on it. Kin 'ell that was agony. Up to being 12 year old all my clothes were bought from the Army Stores. For four years I went to school every day dressed as a Japanese General. Kids today don't know the meaning of embarrassment.!
Up to being 12 year old all my clothes were bought from the Army Stores. For four years I went to school every day dressed as a Japanese General. lol Dont forget all the clothes you had were hand me downs from the eldest to the youngest without fail.... I for one hated that ....i was the only lad in school wearing a dress ...i had 7 sisters.. I was that ugly when i was born ..the midwife slapped my dad in fact i was the only baby on the street who had shutters on his pram They used to hang sausages around my neck just so the dog would make a fuss of me My father said i reminded him of a chocolate orange i said why is it down to me being rather round and sweet he replied no its because your mother used to leave you in the same terry toweling nappy all day long without changing it then in the evening shed sit you in the front of the fire until it baked on solid then it was just a case of tap it and unwrap it i was breast fed we had a cow i always deny it but i was mummies boy apparently and my father once showed me a photo trying to prove it....all that i could make out was me in school uniform with red lines on my face , running from forehead to chin...when i asked what the red lines where he said, well son, they were caused by the school railings whilst your mother was trying to breast feed you and on they go the old ones are the best...lol
Talking of hand me downs in our class at Secondary school we had a kid called McConachie. Poor lad was at the back of the queue when they were giving brains out.? Big fan of Sheffield United.!!! During a Geography lesson we were learning about the Yorkshire Woollen industry. The teacher asked Mac to name something that he was wearing that was made of wool. He sat there with a look that you'd probably get if somebody hit you at the back of your head with a brick.! After a while our teacher Mr O' Sullivan decided he needed some help. O' Sullivan " what are your trousers made out of Seamus."? Mc Conachie " mi bruvvers Sir."! Absolute quality.
There were three Ridings North, East and West. They were formed around 1889. Each had a supplies Division. Ours was County Supplies or WRCC. It was based on Balne Lane in Wakefield. They delivered educational material and furniture to Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield, Leeds, Sheffield, York, Rotherham, Barnsley Dewsbury, Wakefield and Doncaster. All material sold by County Supplies were branded WRCC. In 1974 the Redcliffe Maude Report suggested a total re-organisation of Local Government. Metropolitan Boroughs were established and County Councils were eventually phased out. The Councils who made up the North, East and West Riding decided to form a joint procurement organisation. All Councils in the three regions joined the new body apart from Sheffield and Leeds who decided to duplicate what the new Organisation re- the Yorkshire Purchasing Organisation was set up to do. YPO kept its warehouse on Balne Lane with offices on Park Lodge Lane. The whole operation moved to its present site on the Site 41 Industrial Park near to Junction 41 of the M1. in the 80's. Sheffield and Leeds places were taken by Bury, Knowsley, St Helens and Wigan. Due to the squeeze on budgets and the need to make efficiencies from around 2010 Leeds and Sheffield closed their warehouses and decided to join in YPO arrangements after all. I left Doncaster MBC and joined YPO as a Principal Procurement Officer in 1985. I retired after 30 years service in 2015. Attached is an article written by my former boss Paul Smith in 2015 that outlines the Organisations history. Paul was the head of Procurement at Aviva ( formerly Norwich Union). His Dad is Denis Smith who played 400 plus games as Centre half for Stoke City and during his managerial career he was in charge at York City, West Brom and Sunderland among others. https://www.ypo.co.uk/news-and-events/blog/over-100-years-of-collaborative-procurement
Sorry, but I thought that you were inferring that the county council was YPO. I see what you actually meant now. I had a number of meetings over a period of time with a person I believe to be a member of YPO staff during my time at either SYCC or BMBC but I can't remember his name. Age! Nice bloke though.
No probs tosh. What year was that and what part of YPO did you deal with.? Might have worked with him if it was after 1985.
It is, it is a football forum. Stick with it. The upshot of the story is that Villa and Bristol City now source most of their players from the YPO.
