You live in a fantasy world I'm afraid. I have actually seen the two English lads play. Not on Chelsea tv or 'Embryos we should sign'. but in the flesh. Both looked the best players on the pitch. That will do for me. It's about realistic expectations. The lads we have signed all meet the hoof criteria and I'm sure we will be visiting the u21 teams to try and unearth some talent. Before the fact. Though he did keep wanking on about Solanke to be fair. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
I swore to myself I wasn't going to post on this forum until August but **** me lad. Do you know how much Brizzle had to pay to loan tammy Abraham? A sizeable loan fee plus his wages in FULL 25k a week. That's 6 players for Barnsleys squad covered. Get. In. The. Real. World. One day you'll click on and realise that U23 football and player hoarding on high wages is killing the English game.
Been really impressed with the signings and the way the clubs conducted itself through the summer, after I was totally disenfranchised from January. Only sore subject for me is how much more scowen would have really wanted to stay since I can't believe it would have been that much and think he would be a great asset.
Better still , leicester don't want him and pay off his remaining years contact which means he can sign a two year deal for us on reduced terms with the promise of play like you did last season lad and we will sell you on for millions in 2018 . Dream on . Is that the time ! Nighty night .
Isn't it depressing that the English game has gone so far it's own arse a second tier club can't even afford the wages of players from Chelsea's baby team. It's obscene. And it's not just Chelsea either. There was a story from the Palace chairman a few weeks ago saying that they promoted 3 under 18's to train with the senior squad. It was promptly followed by all three players walking into his office and demanding £28k a week, despite never kicking a ball in the senior team. He also went on to say that the average wage in the Premier League for a 20 year old player (with an average of 10 first team games) was around £23k per week). It's can't be healthy for the game, can it?
Big bonus for me is the number of players we will have at the back 6 foot plus. Davies, Lindsay and McDonald are 6'3" McCarthy is 6'1" and Roberts ( if we can keep him) is 6'. Lindsay looks very impressive in the air from the clips I've seen of him. Let's hope there are more quality additions to come.!
Absolutely nothing to go on you're right. Except one of them has won Supporters Player of the Year at his last two loan clubs. One was one of the most sought after players outside of the top two divisions. And the other two made respective team of the seasons in their divisions. All under 21. All on the up. All have their former clubs fans talking about them like we did Hourihane. But no. You're absolutely right. Nothing to go on.
Think your original post was quite good. Unfortunately your responses descended into usual farce. To comment on your squad observations: Townsend has never inspired me. BUT it must be hard to find a quality keeper, on average money who is happy to sit on the bench. So if Adam stays fit, maybe Townsend will do? Kpekawa. Not sure on him. Certainly wouldn't inspire me at CB. Need some who bulldoze forwards like McD and Robbo do. For a big lad Kpekawa turns away too much and flinches out of headers. Doesn't look tough enough to me. For that reason I'd persevere with Jacko. He is a tough lad, not afraid to stick his nut in and reads the game well. Needs work on positional sense and recovering but if I was Hecky I'd focus on Jacko above Kpekawa. D'Almeida needs to start over again, but I was impressed enough last season to give another go. Payne, I agree with you. Looked fantastic early doors last season but not so much on his return. Perhaps an early run, even from the bench, will allow us to judge. Can't agree with your opinions on new signings; I am totally inspired and am looking forward to what they can bring to the table. Am gutted Josh has moved on BUT we have more than covered his position, albeit with potential rather than proven quality. We are doing our business and doing it well. A bit more respect for fellow posters please lad. Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk
I'd add the season after and the one after that too. 3 year deal. Quality Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk
Yeah but lets not forget that.Mr HT used to suggest that Kern Miller was the best cb he had ever seen.
I love this transfer strategy the club now has, picking up players from further down the pyramid. It reminds me of the business the club used to do when I first fell in love with it. I mean, no one had heard of Darren Sheridan or Bullock before we signed them, but they went on to become part of our best ever squad. Infact, I never realised how much I missed "Stumpy" trying to fight every bleeder in sight, the mad little *******!
