    ....... one of the better Championship centre backs to loads of money Birmingham for the knock down price of £3.5M.
    And then skint Barnsley buy a non league player from Forest Green for over £1M.
    Fingers crossed that it works.

    Not nearly enough IMO.
    Let's see.
    Looking from the outside looking in ....... I would say that Hecky didn't really want Roberts and wanted a change in that position.
    Which, if Hecky thinks that position in the team can be improved on - then that's great

    Got to say I was abit underwelmed when I saw we have signed pinock. But looking at the forest Green fb they are guted and many think we are a stepping stone to the premiership we now on paper have 3 good center halves Mcdonald pinock and lindsay..... I'll give him a chance anyway.

    A smashing signing the worry is chucking Pinnock and Lindsay in at the deep end rather than having someone to mentor and bring them on them selling the player when they are fully up to speed.

    Of course we are going to give him a chance - I hope we are going to give him much more than that.
    What the initial post is pointing at is the views of some that we are getting a good price for Roberts and we will be buying a replacement cheaply.
    Well - they are wrong on both accounts

    Some people ain't got a clue. Like many players Roberts didn't start off as top championship player.

    2 years ago he was in the conference. No one other than us and other teams without a bucket loads of cash would look at him.

    He became a top championship player in his first ever season in the champ making a mockery of the BIG STEP UP Just like Angus did who was also getting interest after just a few months.

    If these rich teams would rather go through a middle man (Barnsley FC) and live up to their expectation to spend big rather than let their fans down and sign a non league unknown, then fecking let them. It keeps the pool of lower league gems bigger for us to fish in and we can continue to reek the rewards when we sell them on.

    For all we know Brum could have saved themselves millions by going straight for Lindsey or Pinnock

    Are we being a wee bit premature in making our judgements on players that have not yet kicked a ball
    for us.? There's six weeks to go before the season starts plus the trip to Poland and the friendlies yet to play.

    In the close season before we were promoted to the Premiership we brought five new players in
    re- Marcelle, Thompson, Bosancic, Appleby and Wilkinson and we added Hendrie later.
    I remember similar comments about them that we are hearing now . Fans were commenting that we were in for a season of struggle and look what happened back then.!

    We have lost seven players from last season, Bree, Roberts, Hourihane, Mawson, Scowen, Winnowt and Watkins.
    All those players (apart from Bree) were recruited from the lower leagues and one came in from non- league.
    I would bet that the collective fees we paid for those would struggle to top £1.5 million.!
    Because the fees we received for them are undisclosed we don't know how much we actually got
    but guesstimates range anywhere from £10- £12.5 million.

    Again the fees for the five players we are now recruiting are undisclosed but at the time we were discussing their signatures
    the press were printing figures that suggest we've could have paid circa £300 k for Mallan, £200 k for McCarthy, £350 k for Lindsay, £700 k for McGeehan and £1 million for Pinnock. Add the £600 k we are supposed to have paid for Mowatt and the
    rough guesstimate is we could well have laid out in excess of £3 million with probably Potts at £600 k, Mc Burnie £250 k
    and Isgrove - on a free transfer yet to come in.

    Mc Burnie and Isgrove (if we get them) and McCarthy have come from the Premiership, Mowatt - Championship, Potts ( if we get him)- League One, McGeehan and Pinnock - League Two, Lindsay- Scottish Premiership and Mallan- Scottish Championship.

    Could it therefore be argued that our new recruits are starting from a higher standard of football than those who have left us
    re- Bree our Academy, Winnowt - League One , Hourihane, Mawson, Scowen- League Two, Watkins- Scottish Premiership and Roberts- Non league.?

    Should we trust Hecky and GG in the knowledge that they will be trying their damnest to bring the right players in and reserve any judgement as to what we think of our new team at least until we've had a chance to see them in League action.?

    No doubt that the coming season is going to be tough and I genuinely haven't a clue what to expect. Recruitment isn't an exact science. No doubt we have lost a lot of proven quality in the last 12 months, but we only saw the proof over a 2-3 year period. I think the key difference this season is that we are at a level where the recruitment model isn't proven, with the momentum on and off the pitch now gone. The standing start will be the biggest test of Hecky and the club's strategy and nerve. We've got to trust them based on what has been achieved, doesn't mean we shouldn't question them though. However, I'm pretty worn with the "paralysis by analysis" if I'm honest, and presume it's age that makes me more and more pragmatic. Looking forward to the journey and excited to see what the new team can or can't do.
