I would'nt say it was a mind-boggling signing though. He came on the back of a very good performance in the u21 world cup where I believe he got a golden boot for Holland?

Very true, but after the first few showings its mind boggling he was not sent straight back. Instead we had to endure him for 19 games

Nowt to do with his boots..
It was blatantly obvious he was unfit. He was blowing out of his arse after ten minutes of that game.

Nobody knows at the time of signing if it's mind boggling. The intent, whether it pans out that way or not, is to improve a squad or team.

It's easy to list players that turned out to not be a great signing after the event, but before, none of us know.

Certainly to sign players from a low level and try and coach them to turn them out at a higher level is far from mind boggling.

He's probably the worst player we've had in the last 10 years in terms of effort, or absence of it. I remember one game he came on as a sub, immediately brought a save out of the keeper and then went to sleep. He must have been decent elsewhere but he showed no signs of it for us.

Wow this thread is an absolute sh*ite fest of players... aren't we all proud to say they all put on the famous red shirt. ;)
Btw Im picking players who also turned out to be bad, not just players who were 'bad signings'. (if you see what I mean)

And despite some home truths coming out on here about Dave Bassett, season 1999-00 was still a brilliant one with lots of good memories.

    Good shouts.

Martin Taylor will forever stay in my memory. It was my lads first ever reds game, at Oldham.

My lad was only six but we still talk about how slow Taylor was to get down to a soft Oldham goal.

Doncaster must have pillocked up with onabudgy. Their cheesy chairman was slating us for nicking him from under their noses. He must have pissed himself grinning.

Donovan was a weird one. He ripped teams apart playing for grim on sea, us included, but take him away from the smell of the findus factory and his powers were futile.

It wasn't Ridsdale that signed him, he was telling me about the f*ck ups from the previous regime.

No buddy there's been numerous rumours flying round but it was all to do with JD. Honestly having heard first hand what took place I didn't blame him for leaving...Array is one of the loveliest people you could meet.
Not only that he loved is time at Barnsley with a passion not only the club but the towns folk as well .

Very good point. Ridsdale turned up a couple of seasons later. I've tried to block that whole period of our history out of my mind to be honest!
